Cody Rhodes is dealing with multiple injuries after the clash against Kevin Owens
The Stamford-based promotion arrived in Indianapolis to deliver the first PLE of the year from the Lucas Oil Stadium. The Royal Rumble 2025 PLE took place on February 1 at the aforementioned venue and featured the two traditional Rumble matches along with two title clashes.
‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes defended the Undisputed WWE title against Kevin Owens in a ladder match. The iconic Winged Eagle WWE title was also on the line, the title was stolen by KO after he lost the title match and attacked Rhodes at the December 14 edition of SNME.
Rhodes showcased his will and fought back despite a heavy onslaught from the challenger. The American Nightmare was able to land a brutal Alabama Slam from the commentary desk sending Owens crashing through the steel ladder.
Rhodes then proceeded to climb the ladder and capture both titles to win the match and defend his title successfully for the eighth time. However, while defending the title Rhodes suffered multiple injuries and many fans wondered if he would appear on the fallout show of SmackDown.
Cody Rhodes was unable to address the media after the Royal Rumble PLE due to injuries
Following the PLE on February 1, Jackie Redmond backstage informed the WWE Universe that the American Nightmare is dealing with multiple injuries after the ladder match clash with Owens. Redmond also revealed that Cody’s in-ring status is up in the air, with no certainty if he will be able to return to competition.
The American Nightmare also didn’t attend the post-match press conference due to the injuries. However, Redmond also clarified that despite the injuries Rhodes will still attend the fallout show of Friday Night SmackDown.
Ahead of tonight’s show, The American Nightmare has put fans’ minds at ease by confirming his appearance on tonight’s SmackDown. Taking to Instagram, Rhodes provided an update on his status, assuring fans that he will indeed be in Memphis tonight.
“2 days in bed essentially but feeling good and ready for Memphis! Also, since I got through it A in one piece I got to keep the best promise…” Rhodes wrote on his IG story.
It would be interesting to see what the American Nightmare has planned following the dominant win and if Jey Uso picks him instead of the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther for WrestleMania tonight on SmackDown.
