The one and only 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena embarked on a historic retirement tour in 2025, which concluded in his final match at the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Cena, in his final match, battled ‘The Ring General’ Gunther, and despite his best efforts, he succumbed to the brutal sleeper hold of Gunther and was forced to tap out. The 17-time World Champion went out with a smile before tapping out, bidding farewell to the WWE Universe.
He celebrated the retirement with fans in the arena before leaving his wrestling boots inside the ring, signalling the end of a legendary career.
As the build-up to WrestleMania 42 continues, many have been speculating whether the G.O.A.T. will appear on the big stage, and John Cena himself has addressed these rumours.

Yes, John Cena has confirmed his appearance for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Not only that, but Cena has also announced that he will officially host the ‘Grandest Stage.’
The announcement has generated a lot of buzz as fans are eager to see the Cenation Leader back in the WWE. The 42nd edition of WrestleMania will take place as a two-night event on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
This will be his first appearance since the retirement match at SNME, and the announcement is anticipated to help boost the ticket sales for the PLE.
According to a report from Fightful, Cena was named the host of WrestleMania primarily to boost ticket sales, and the announcement is expected to be heavily promoted across WWE TV this week.
