Seth Rollins is currently out indefinitely
Seth Rollins has made a career out of shocking moments, and with the 2025 edition of SummerSlam just days away, speculation is running wild about whether he’ll do it again.
The Visionary currently holds the Money in the Bank briefcase, a guaranteed ticket to a world championship opportunity and if reports are to be believed, he was lined up for one of the biggest cash-ins in WWE history this weekend.
But as always in WWE, things are never that simple. Rollins’ recent injury has thrown a wrench into those plans, leading fans to wonder: Is the cash-in still happening?
Seth Rollins was reportedly set for a WWE SummerSlam shocker
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Seth Rollins was originally scheduled to cash in his briefcase during Saturday night’s SummerSlam main event. The match between CM Punk and Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship was supposed to set the stage.
“Punk finally winning the title and then Rollins cashing in after making everyone think his knee was blown out is actually a great one,” Meltzer noted.
This twist would have mirrored Rollins’ legendary “heist of the century” from WrestleMania 31, when he cashed in during the main event to win the WWE Championship from Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. The plan seemed like poetic symmetry, a career-defining moment replicated ten years later.
Is the injury legitimate or part of the show?
The real uncertainty stems from Rollins’ injury status. Last month, he appeared to tweak his knee in a match against LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The match ended abruptly, with Knight picking up a surprise win. This incident immediately sparked concern about whether Rollins would be medically cleared for SummerSlam.
However, Meltzer suggested the injury might be part of a storyline rather than a legitimate medical issue. The ambiguity is deliberate and brilliant if WWE intends to pull off a fakeout cash-in.
“It’s unclear as to whether or not WWE would continue in that direction,” Meltzer added, citing the unpredictable nature of WWE’s current creative direction and the surprise elements planned for SummerSlam weekend.
Seth Rollins looms large despite being off the card
Even though he’s not currently advertised for a match, Seth Rollins’ presence hangs heavy over SummerSlam. He has strong ties to both Roman Reigns and CM Punk and is still officially allied with Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, who will battle Reigns and Jey Uso in a tag team match on Night One.
With or without the briefcase, Rollins inserting himself at the end of Punk vs. Gunther would be classic WWE storytelling. A career defined by calculated timing could very well add another shocking chapter in New Jersey.
Is Seth Rollins really injured?
Rollins reportedly suffered a knee injury during a match with LA Knight, but some insiders believe it may be a scripted angle leading to a surprise return.
Was Seth Rollins supposed to cash in at SummerSlam 2025?
Yes. According to Dave Meltzer, Rollins was originally scheduled to cash in after CM Punk vs. Gunther in Saturday night’s main event.
Will Seth Rollins appear at SummerSlam despite his injury?
While not confirmed, Rollins could still appear. WWE is keeping things quiet, which may point to a planned surprise involving his MITB briefcase.
