The former IC Champion once again failed in his title quest!
On the August 11 episode of WWE Raw, Sami Zayn asked General Manager Adam Pearce for a title shot as he is looking to get back into the title picture. However, Pearce insisted that Zayn win the match with Rusev first, then he will talk about the prospect of a title shot.
Determined to win, Zayn locked horns with Rusev and, despite an early struggle, was looking to land the helluva kick and pick up the win. The arrival of Solo Sikoa and his MFTs spoiled the party for Zayn as Tama Tonga and JC Mateo pulled him out of the ring and started attacking him.
This led the referee to call of the match as Talla Tonga took him out with a big boot. Solo and his faction attacked Zayn due to him pinning Solo last week on SmackDown and handing the United States Champion a humiliating loss. Sami also managed to escape the MFTs after pinning Solo.
This DQ win has likley once again spoiled his chances of getting back the WWE World title show, while pulling him again in the ‘bloodline vortex’.
Vince Russo believes WWE is repeating the Daniel Bryan experiment with Sami Zayn
On the latest episode of Legion of RAW, Vince Russo suggested that WWE might be trying to recreate the Daniel Bryan storyline with Sami Zayn.
He pointed out that the creative team has hinted at Sami winning the title multiple times and believes it’s only a matter of time before it happens, especially with Sami gaining momentum with recent wins. Russo also remarked that Zayn could end up being positioned like Hulk Hogan was in the 1980s.
“He is going to be the World Champion. It is time to replay the Daniel Bryan card. He would not keep saying it over and over again if it wasn’t gonna happen.
They put him over, he beat Kross, and he beat Solo on SmackDown. It is tailor-made. It is happening, man. This guy is gonna be in the Hulk Hogan spot. Think about that. Sami Zayn of 2025 is gonna be Hulk Hogan of 1983. Think about that for a second.”
