IYO SKY survived a relentless assault from Asuka to score a huge victory in one of WWE Backlash 2026’s best matches.
IYO SKY and Asuka delivered a gripping battle at WWE Backlash 2026, blending technical wrestling, vicious strikes, and dramatic counters in a match worthy of their storied history.
The action started at a furious pace, with both women trading grapples and counters before SKY gained the early edge with a legsweep and dropkick combination. Asuka quickly responded with her trademark aggression, targeting IYO with kicks, submissions, and repeated attacks against the ropes.
The Empress slowed the pace and punished SKY with arm-focused offense, while maintaining complete control through brutal strikes and calculated submissions.
Momentum swings define a brutal encounter
Despite the punishment, SKY repeatedly battled back with explosive offense. A Frankensteiner roll-through into a double stomp brought the crowd to life and shifted momentum back in her favor.
The pace escalated from there. Asuka connected with sliding knees, German suplexes, and a Fujiwara armbar, while SKY answered with missile dropkicks, crescent kicks, and corner knees. Neither competitor could keep the other down for long.
One of the most dramatic moments came when Asuka trapped SKY in the Asuka Lock before transitioning into a cross armbar on the damaged arm. Somehow, SKY escaped and even briefly locked in an Asuka Lock of her own. The intensity only grew as both women traded strikes from their knees before fighting back to their feet.
Wade Barrett’s notebook stops the mist
Late in the match, the fight spilled outside near the announce desk. Asuka attempted to use her infamous mist during a dangerous exchange on top of the table.
However, SKY reacted instantly, grabbing commentator Wade Barrett’s notebook to block the mist before countering the sequence.
Moments later, SKY connected with an Asai moonsault on the outside before returning to the top rope inside the ring. Although she initially missed a moonsault attempt, she survived another submission barrage from Asuka and fought through the pain.
IYO SKY seals massive victory

In the closing stretch, both women exchanged German suplexes and heavy strikes before SKY finally created enough separation to climb to the top rope one final time.
This time, she did not miss. SKY landed her signature diving moonsault and secured the pinfall victory over Asuka in a hard-fought showdown that showcased the best of both competitors.
The win further cements IYO SKY as one of WWE’s elite performers, while Asuka once again proved why she remains one of the most dangerous veterans in the women’s division.
Winners: Iyo Sky (Via Pinfall)
