Becky Lynch & Lyra Valkyria had an incredible match
Lyra Valkyria successfully retained her WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship in a hard-fought and emotional battle against Becky Lynch at WWE Backlash 2025. In a deeply personal contest, Valkyria proved that she’s more than just Lynch’s former protege; she’s a champion capable of overcoming legends.
From the start, Becky tried to play mind games, using her veteran experience to unsettle the young champion. She mocked Valkyria and attempted to get into her head with trash talk and arrogance, but the champ responded with intensity and composure.
Valkyria countered early offense with strength-based submissions and showed her agility by lifting Lynch and rolling her into tight holds.
The bout quickly turned physical. A stiff exchange on the top rope led to a huge superplex from Valkyria, drawing a loud reaction from the St. Louis crowd. She followed with a pin attempt, but Lynch narrowly escaped.
Becky bounced back and nearly landed the Manhandle Slam, but Valkyria avoided it and answered with a flying leg drop and a moonsault, only for Lynch to get her knees up in time.
Both women went through a stretch of reversals and armbar attempts. Lynch eventually connected with the Manhandle Slam and looked to have the win, but Valkyria shocked everyone by kicking out at the last possible moment.
Frustration began to show on Becky’s face as she grabbed a steel chair, only to be stopped by the referee. She then exposed a turnbuckle while the official was distracted and hit another finisher. Still, Valkyria survived.
The champion fired back with her signature Nightwing maneuver and had the win in sight, but the referee was busy fixing the turnbuckle and missed the pin. What followed was a wild sequence of back-and-forth roll-ups, with both women desperately trying to outsmart the other. Ultimately, Lyra Valkyria got the better of Becky Lynch with a surprise pin, retaining her title.
The post-match moment was anything but celebratory. A frustrated Becky Lynch attacked Valkyria viciously, laying into her former student and hinting that this rivalry is far from over. Though Valkyria walks out of Backlash still champion, the war with Lynch seems only just beginning.
Winner: Lyra Valkyria retains WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship
