WrestleMania 42 rematch for the WWE United States Championship.

Sami Zayn and Trick Williams tore into each other at WWE Backlash 2026 in a heated United States Championship clash filled with near falls, interference, and physical brutality.

Before the match even officially began, tensions boiled over into a shoving match that referee Aja Perera struggled to contain. Trick arrived alongside rapper Lil Yachty, who carried the now-infamous candy cane kendo stick from the previous night.

Williams warned backstage that Sami Zayn needed to “quit lying” about his experience, boldly declaring that he now runs the game.

Sami Zayn battles through chaos and interference

Once the bell rang, both men wasted no time escalating the fight. Williams used his explosiveness early, landing a huge leaping lariat and punishing Zayn while fans loudly chanted “Whoop that trick!”

Zayn responded by turning the match into a gritty brawl, launching Williams into the steel steps and hammering him with corner strikes. Momentum shifted repeatedly as both stars traded heavy offense and dramatic counters.

Williams connected with a Book End for a close near fall, while Zayn nearly stole the title after hitting a sunset flip powerbomb and later a Blue Thunder Driver that came inches away from victory.

The match took another turn when Zayn appeared to injure his knee during a leapfrog spot, only to reveal it was a fakeout designed to catch Williams off guard.

Lil Yachty’s involvement changes the match

Outside interference played a major role throughout the contest. Lil Yachty repeatedly inserted himself into the action, distracting Zayn and even helping create openings for Williams.

At one point, the interference backfired as Zayn blasted Trick with the kendo stick, but the champion still kicked out. Moments later, Yachty struck Zayn with the weapon, allowing Williams to land the Cyclone Kill for another near fall.

Zayn eventually snapped, taking out Lil Yachty with both the kendo stick and a Helluva Kick on the outside before turning his focus back toward the champion.

Back inside the ring, Zayn looked ready to finish the match with a Helluva Kick, but Williams sidestepped at the last second.

That opening proved decisive. Williams crushed Zayn with the Trickshot and secured the pinfall victory to retain the WWE United States Championship in dramatic fashion.

The win continues Trick Williams’ momentum as one of WWE’s fastest-rising stars, while Zayn’s frustrations continue to mount following another major loss.
