Bron Breakker triumphs over Seth Rollins, Trick Williams retains & more!

With the conclusion of WrestleMania 42, all eyes turned to the Backlash after WrestleMania. The 2026 edition of the Backlash event emanated live from the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. The show featured five high-stakes matches.

Roman Reigns and Trick Williams defended their respective titles, while Seth Rollins and Iyo Sky settled their scores with Bron Breakker and Asuka, respectively. Minihausen turned out to be Danahusen’s mystery partner for the tag team match.

Additionally, John Cena also made his return for the teased announcement. Get to know what happened this Saturday, as we have the complete summary, highlights, results, and winners’ list for the 2026 edition of WWE Backlash.

WWE Backlash 2026 Summary and Highlights

Seth Rollins vs Bron Breakker

The first match of the show saw Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins collide for the first time since their fallout, which started with Breakker turning on Rollins and kicking him out of the faction. The match set an incredible pace from the get-go, with the bad blood taking center stage.

However, in the end, Breakker managed to pin the Visionary, who managed to thwart attacks from Austin Theory and Logan Paul and even interference from Paul Heyman, but failed to secure the win.

Winner: Bron Breakker

Grade: A

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Breakker’s first in-ring appearance since the Royal Rumble and his first singles match since early January.
  • With the win, the head-to-head record between Breakker and Rollins is now at 1-1, and this feud is likely going to pick up more steam after the win.

Trick Williams (c) vs Sami Zayn – United States title match

Trick Williams with Lil Yachty walked out for the second match, where he defended the United States title against Sami Zayn in a WrestleMania 42 rematch. Sami continued his heel antics, as the crowd drowned him in boos, even attacking Lil Yachty ringside.

In the end, Williams managed to land the Trick Shot and pin Sami to pick up the win in the rematch and retain the US title.

Winner & Still: Trick Williams

Grade: B-

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The win marked the first successful title defense for William’s US title reign and his first defense on the main roster.
  • Sami Zayn’s heel antics were on full display when he faked the injury and Helluva Kicked Lil Yachty.
  • Sami Zayn has lost another title match, and with the fans turning on him, it remains to be seen what lies next for him. Even a feud with Cody Rhodes, if it ends in a similar fashion, is likely a bad direction for him.

Danhausen & Minihausen vs The Miz & Kit Wilson

With massive speculations on what Danhausen’s mystery opponent might be, the third match began. Danhausen, after his entrance, walked up to the Cloning Machine to reveal a ‘Mini Danhausen’ as his tag partner. Minihausen started the action against Kit Wilson. However, chaos broke out when Wilson sent Minihausen back into the Cloning Machine, and multiple Minihasens came out.

Wilson even managed to divert the curse using a mirror, but the curse on Miz seemed to be in effect as Miz tried and failed to use a fire extinguisher. Danhausen and Minihausen capitalized to pick up the win in the tag team match.

Winner: Danhausen & Minihausen

Grade: B

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Fan reaction to the gimmick was lukewarm once again, as expectations failed to match the outcome. However, Minihausen did manage to win over some fans with his performance in the match.
  • The match turned out to be fun, engaging, and far better than it had any right to be. Danhausen, Wilson, and Miz played their characters perfectly, keeping fans on their feet throughout.

Iyo Sky vs Asuka

The co-main event of the PLE saw Iyo Sky take on her former Senpai Asuka. The two legendary in-ring performers tore the house down with an incredible performance. Iyo managed to survive the Asuka lock and even dodged the mist using Wade Barrett’s notepad.

Sky picked up the win after delivering the moonsault. After the match, in a rare emotional moment, Asuka broke down in tears and embraced Iyo, further sparking the rumors of a possible retirement.

Winner: Iyo Sky

Grade: A+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Loud “WE WANT KAIRI” chants were audible during the match.
  • Both Asuka and Iyo once again reminded everyone why they are held in such high regard. The match, without a doubt, stole the show.
  • A tearful Asuka embracing Iyo and the emotional wave overall will not help the rumors of her retirement as it genuinely felt like a goodbye.

John Cena Classic

John Cena soaked in all the love from the Tampa crowd and thanked them for the chants. The 17-time World Champion recapped his retirement before revealing the hyped announcement, which was the ‘John Cena Classic’. The best of today competing with the best of tomorrow, in the hopes of being crowned a Champion.

He added that the brand-new event will feature stars from WWE and NXT, while also announcing a new championship in WWE. Cena stated that he is personally putting his name behind both the title and the event, aiming to uphold a certain level of excellence. He further revealed that the WWE Universe’s voice will be heard louder than ever, as fans will vote to crown the champion of the ‘John Cena Classic’.

Additionally, every participant who qualifies may not win the match, but the fans can still vote them through. Cena also promised to give the fans everything he has and doesn’t want to do it just for one, two, or three, as the Sky is the limit.

Grade: A

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Cena noted that the WWE Universe will have the opportunity to voice their opinion and crown the champion, meaning a wrestler could still win the title even after a loss if the crowd recognizes their effort and hustle.
  • Fan involvement could backfire in an era of online trolling and WWE’s current disconnect with its audience. Hopefully, Cena’s involvement helps address the latter.

Roman Reigns (c) vs Jacob Fatu – World Heavyweight title match

The main event of the event saw Roman Reigns battle Jacob Fatu with the World Heavyweight title on the line. Reigns was unable to put down Fatu, who proved to be a force to be reckoned with, constantly locking in the Tongan Death Grip and looking unfazed even after devastating spears and Superman punches by Reigns.

However, Reigns managed to expose the turnbuckle and slam Fatu into it, followed by a spear to pin Fatu. This only irked Fatu, who then launched a vicious assault post-match, locking in the Tongan Death Grip, leaving Roman gasping for air.

Winner & Still: Roman Reigns

Grade: A

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Fatu looked like an unstoppable force, and Roman ensured that, despite the loss, Fatu’s stock is still on the rise.
  • The win marked Roman’s first title defense after capturing the World title during Night 2 of WrestleMania 42.
  • While nothing major and headline-grabbing happened at the show aside from Cena’s announcement, the PLE still delivered in terms of matches and continued ongoing storylines.
