WWE has witnessed a number of betrayals in recent years
WWE Superstars are subjected to babyfaces and heels in the long term storytelling. The company has come across a number of top babyfaces and greater heels throughout the years. There is only a small gap between being the babyface and a heel.
We have witnessed a number of WWE stars turning face to heel and heel to face. Although turning heel to face is a mighty task, turning heel from face seems to be comparatively easier, as one right betrayal against the babyface or teammate is enough. Here we take a look at the top five WWE’s biggest betrayals in recent years.
5. Judgment Day betrays Rhea Ripley & Damian Priest
The Judgment Day has been one of the dominant factions, which has been in existence since 2022. The leaderless faction involving Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh had a major success in 2023, where almost everyone had their hands on gold. Although they had great success, things weren’t smooth within the faction, as there was a number of mis-communication between them.
At SummerSlam 2024, Dominik Mysterio, who was in an on-screen relationship with Rhea Ripley, turned on her, by aligning with Liv Morgan, by helping her retain the title and kissing her. On the same day, Finn Balor turned on Damian Priest and made him lose the world title. Balor gave an explanation on the following Raw and said that he waited very long for this moment. Balor also revealed that the whole Judgment Day is with him, and they kicked both Priest and Ripley out of the faction.
4. Solo Sikoa betrays The OG Bloodline
Solo Sikoa became the member of The Bloodline at Clash at the Castle 2022, when he saved Roman’s championship match from Drew McIntyre. Solo became one of the young and dominant forces of the stable, which impressed Roman, who made him the enforcer of The Bloodline. Although The Usos teased of leaving the faction, Sikoa stood loyal to Roman. This made Roman upgrade Solo as the Tribal Heir.
However after Roman went for a long hiatus after WrestleMania 40, Solo started showing his true colors by acquiring the Bloodline, by kicking the original members of the faction and recruiting the new ones. Solo’s greed went too far, as he claimed himself as the Tribal Chief and went on to calling Roman as the weak leader. Solo’s betrayal resulted in Roman screwing Solo’s title match at SummerSlam.
3. Jimmy Uso betrays Jey Uso
The Usos (Jey Uso & Jimmy Uso) are one of the greatest tag teams in WWE. They have been bound together since birth and had an unbreakable bond. In 2023, Jey Uso stepped up for Jimmy, when Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa attacked Jimmy. Jey tried to end Roman’s Tribal Chief reign, as revenge for Jimmy’s attack.
At SummerSlam, Jey fought Roman in a Tribal Combat Match, with both the Undisputed WWE Championship and Tribal Chief status on the line. Jey took Roman to the limit and came so close from dethroning Reigns. However Jimmy Uso pulled Jey out and attacked his brother Jey, betraying him for Roman. The action made Jey leave the Bloodline and move to Raw as a singles wrestler.
2. Dominik Mysterio turns on Rey Mysterio
In 2022, The Mysterios (Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio) feuded with The Judgment Day, where the former Judgment Day leader and founder Edge was also feuding with Judgment Day. At Clash at the Castle Rey teamed up with Edge to face Finn Balor and Damian Priest of the Judgment Day in a tag team match and defeated them.
After the match, Rey, Dom and Edge celebrated the victory, however Dom delivered Edge with a low blow. Rey asked to apologize to Edge, however Dom turned on his father, by delivering a vicious clothesline and struck him over and over. Dominik’s action became a big talking point and the following night on Raw, he officially joined the Judgment Day.
1. Sami Zayn turns on the Bloodline
In 2022, both Sami Zayn & The Bloodline were in a rivalry with Drew McIntyre. Sami Zayn started aligning with The Bloodline and later became the ‘Honorary’ member of the Bloodline. He was officially acknowledged by the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns, who gave him the ‘Honorary Uce’ t-shirt. Zayn gave his blood and flesh for Bloodline, however his actions were questioned on a number of occasions. He had great connection with every member of the faction except Jey Uso, however Jey accepted him and the faction was in full dominance.
The real problem arose when Zayn was being questioned over and over, especially when Bloodline feuded with Sami’s friend Kevin Owens. At Royal Rumble 2023, after Roman defeated Owens, he handcuffed Owens and asked Sami to attack him with the chair. However, Sami Zayn attacked Roman with the chair as an act of betrayal.
Sami was attacked by The Bloodline, except Jey Uso, who refused to attack Zayn and left the ring. This made a huge shock wave in the wrestling industry and thus occupying the first place in the biggest betrayals in recent times.
