The streaming giant has been the new home of the WWE since January 2025!
The Stamford-based promotion ushered in 2025 with a bang as it started airing its product on the streaming giant Netflix, this was part of a a deal worth more than $5bn. While in the US only Monday Night Raw streams on the streaming platform along with a few countries where older deals are still in place, the rest of the world tunes into Netflix to watch their favorite superstars.
The transition has since created ripples as the creative team has now the freedom to experiment and less censorship means a more authentic product for the fans. The transition kicked off on January 06 with Raw Netflix debut which emanated from the Intuit Dome and delivered jaw-dropping moments.
This was also the first time in three decades that Monday Night Raw was not being aired on television. Since its first show in January Raw has constantly been in the top ten show list in multiple countries.
Unlike the US, international fans can watch Raw, SmackDown, and NXT on the platform along with all the Premium Live Events (PLEs) such as WrestleMania or SummerSlam. The streaming giant also offers vault videos and specially curated content.
Netflix has ‘no input’ on the creative direction of the WWE
In a recent conversation with BBC Newsbeat, WWE CCO and pro wrestling veteran Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque revealed that the streaming giant has no input into the creative plans of the promotion. “We create the superstars, we create the storylines. We do all of that and the world watches,” Levesque revealed.
Levesque further clarified that Netflix only decides the length of the show and the telecast timings, while when it comes to the creation of the shows the promotion is in full control.
Netflix only decides “how long the show is, when we go off air, or what time we’re on air”, just like other live events.
“As far as the content of the shows… someone doesn’t tell the NFL how football’s played. They distribute our product,” Levesque said.
Levesque also commented on John Cena‘s decision to hang up his wrestling boots at the end of 2025, the WWE CCO stated that Cena decided to retire after realizing that, he couldn’t do it anymore, “Physically, I can’t do this any more”.
“He was wonderful enough to say ‘I want to have a year-long retirement run’ and go see everyone and thank them.
“What’s the biggest way we can do that? To explore avenues we haven’t gone down. So, 20 years later – John, who’s the ultimate good guy and always does the right thing – becomes a bad guy.” Tripl H stated.
Cena is currently on his farewell tour and recently turned heel after winning the 2025 men’s Elimination Chamber. The 16-time WWE World Champion sold his soul to The Rock and ambushed the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. He is now set to battle Rhodes for the title at the WrestleMania 41 PLE.
