For the first time in his career, John Cena turns heel
WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 delivered one of the most shocking moments in recent history, as John Cena turned heel for the first time in decades, aligning himself with The Rock and brutally attacking Cody Rhodes.
It all started last week on SmackDown when The Rock made his highly anticipated return. He called Cody Rhodes to the ring and made a bold declaration, he didn’t want Cody’s Undisputed WWE Championship, he wanted his soul. The Final Boss gave Cody until Elimination Chamber to make his decision.
Fast forward to Saturday night at the Rogers Centre, and the main event saw John Cena win the grueling Elimination Chamber match, eliminating CM Punk to punch his ticket to WrestleMania. As the celebration began, Cody Rhodes came down to the ring, shaking Cena’s hand in a sign of respect. But then… the mood shifted.
The Rock’s music hit, and to everyone’s surprise, Travis Scott carrying the WWE Hardcore Championship walked out alongside him. As they entered the ring, The Rock once again demanded that Cody embrace him as a brother and champion. If not, he warned, “The Dream dies again.”
Cody’s response? A firm no. He declared that his soul belonged to the ring and the WWE Universe, then looked The Rock in the eye and told him, “Hey Rock, go f*** yourself!” The crowd erupted, and even John Cena seemed to approve at least for a moment.
Then, out of nowhere, Cena struck. A shocking low blow to Cody sent the champion crashing to the mat. What followed was a brutal beatdown Cena used Cody’s own watch to pummel him, slammed a microphone into his head, and even choked him with his own tie.
With Cody barely able to stand, The Rock took off Cody’s custom weight belt labeled “Cody’s Soul” and lashed him with it. Cena, The Rock, and Travis Scott then left together as the show went off the air, leaving the WWE Universe stunned.
Cena’s shocking betrayal and alliance with The Rock raises one massive question, what’s next for Cody Rhodes as WrestleMania looms?
