Cody Rhodes’ championship has a new name!

WWE has officially made a subtle yet significant change following Cody Rhodes’ victory over John Cena at SummerSlam 2025.

The company’s website now lists Cody Rhodes’ newly reclaimed championship simply as the WWE Championship, dropping the word “Undisputed” from its name.

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

Fans first noticed this update, and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful later confirmed it on X/Twitter. The change came immediately after Rhodes defeated Cena in a high-stakes Street Fight main event on Night 2 of SummerSlam 2025 at MetLife Stadium.

Cody Rhodes defeats John Cena to regain the company’s top prize

Cody Rhodes recaptured the championship he lost earlier this year at WrestleMania 41. The match was brutal, emotional, and marked by classic WWE drama.

Post-match, Rhodes was visibly emotional as he held up the World title, closing out SummerSlam in storybook fashion.

This is now Cody’s second WWE Championship reign in just over a year, signaling the company’s continued commitment to building the brand around him.

Removing “Undisputed” from the name may reflect a new chapter where each brand holds one distinct world title again.

Triple H praises Cody as the future

On the SummerSlam post-show, WWE CCO Triple H had glowing words for The American Nightmare:

“He will do what is right every single time for business. He follows the John Cena model. Watching them tonight felt like the greatest of all time facing a guy who’s on his way to becoming the greatest of all time.”

It was a clear endorsement of Rhodes as the company’s future cornerstone. Much like Cena and Roman Reigns before him, Rhodes is now expected to carry the mantle of the WWE Champion through a new era.

Brock Lesnar’s shocking return sets up a major feud

However, the story didn’t end with Rhodes holding the gold. Just as he left the ring, John Cena stood alone, soaking in the crowd, until Brock Lesnar made his shocking return and dropped him with an F5.

It marked Lesnar’s first WWE appearance in two years, teasing a final showdown with Cena during the latter’s retirement tour. But for now, all eyes are on Rhodes, who begins a new reign under a simplified and legacy-driven title name.

What is the new name of Cody Rhodes’ championship?

It is now officially called the WWE Championship, with “Undisputed” being dropped after SummerSlam 2025.

Why did WWE change the title name?

The change likely reflects a streamlined branding strategy and potentially hints at the return of brand-exclusive world titles.

Is Brock Lesnar back in WWE full-time?

Lesnar returned at the end of SummerSlam to attack John Cena, signaling a likely match during Cena’s farewell run, but his full-time status is yet to be confirmed.
