John Cena and AJ Styles had a classic!
When two icons like John Cena and AJ Styles share a ring, expectations soar. And at WWE Crown Jewel 2025, they didn’t just meet those expectations; they shattered them.
Inside Perth’s RAC Arena, the two veterans put on a masterclass that blended nostalgia, technical brilliance, and emotional storytelling, reminding the world why they’re regarded among the greatest of all time.
The match began classically, with a traditional lock-up that evoked memories of their 2016 rivalry. Styles looked sharp early, showcasing speed and countering Cena’s power with precision strikes.
But the 17-time world champion regained control, landing his signature Five-Knuckle Shuffle followed by an Attitude Adjustment for an early near fall that electrified the crowd.
John Cena and AJ Styles gave many tributes
AJ Styles shifted the momentum with a modified Attitude Adjustment of his own, though he tweaked his knee on the landing, slowing his pace. Sensing an opportunity, Cena targeted the weakness and added a creative twist, delivering The Miz’s Skull Crushing Finale. It wasn’t enough for the win, but it showed Cena’s willingness to dig deep into his opponents’ arsenals.
The match then turned into a submission clinic. AJ Styles reversed John Cena’s STF into his own version, only for Cena to roll through into a Camel Clutch. The exchanges grew fierce, Walls of Jericho, Calf Crusher, and another STF attempt, all met with thunderous crowd reactions. The back-and-forth was pure wrestling poetry.
When Styles finally connected with the Styles Clash, many thought it was over, but Cena kicked out at two and a half. Styles went high-risk with a Phenomenal Forearm attempt, but Cena caught him mid-air and delivered a haunting Sister Abigail, paying tribute to the late Bray Wyatt. The Perth crowd responded by lighting up the arena with “fireflies,” creating one of the night’s most emotional moments.
John Cena finishes strong
As fatigue set in, both men traded heavy blows. Styles countered a Pedigree and nearly stole the victory, but Cena’s resilience kept him alive. In a nod to his storied rivals, Cena hit a Randy Orton-style powerslam followed by a stunning RKO for another near fall. Styles, in turn, mimicked Cena’s moves, landing an AA and a Five-Knuckle Shuffle before being caught by surprise.
Cena unleashed a devastating sequence to close the match, a Tombstone Piledriver followed by one final Attitude Adjustment. This time, Styles stayed down. The referee’s three-count sealed the victory for Cena, capping off a breathtaking encounter that will be remembered as one of the finest bouts of 2025.
