CM Punk retains in his hometown!
CM Punk walked into Elimination Chamber 2026 with gold on his shoulder and defiance in his eyes. He walked out still WWE World Heavyweight Champion after a grueling war with Finn Bálor. Chants of “CM Punk” echoed throughout the arena as the veteran survived one of his toughest defenses yet.
The opening minutes were pure wrestling chess. They traded hammerlocks, full nelsons and headlock takeovers, each countering the other in seamless fashion. Punk scored early with a calf kick, scoop slam and knee drop, but Bálor kept him grounded.
Momentum shifted when Bálor targeted Punk’s ribs. Springboard stomps, abdominal stretches and sharp boots to the midsection left the champion reeling. A kitchen sink knee and repeated strikes to the injured ribs slowed Punk’s tempo considerably.
Punk answered with signature offense. A high knee and bulldog combination reignited the crowd before a suicide dive sent Bálor crashing into the commentary table. Yet every Go to Sleep attempt was countered, keeping the match finely balanced.

The pace intensified down the stretch. Punk bled from the mouth after evading a Coup de Grâce, then soared with a flying elbow drop for a near fall. Bálor responded with a Sling Blade, shotgun dropkick and a thunderous 1916.
The challenger delivered the Coup de Grâce clean. One… two… Punk kicked out, igniting another deafening “CM Punk” chant. Bálor’s disbelief was visible as the champion refused to yield.
The fight spilled outside. A Sling Blade on the floor and a shotgun dropkick through the barricade nearly ended Punk’s reign. Bálor glanced at the World Heavyweight Championship before resetting his focus.
Back inside, counters came rapid-fire. Punk trapped Bálor in an Anaconda Vice and later a Sharpshooter, but Bálor clawed to the ropes. The crowd roared “This is awesome” as exhaustion overtook both men.
In the decisive sequence, Punk stomped Bálor’s face and hoisted him onto his shoulders. One final Go to Sleep connected flush in the center of the ring. Three seconds later, Punk remained champion.
The match blended technical craft with escalating violence. Both men targeted weaknesses, absorbed punishment and survived signature blows. In the end, Punk’s resilience proved stronger than Bálor’s precision.
CM Punk is still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Finn Bálor pushed him to the limit and came within inches of victory. But at Elimination Chamber 2026, the champion endured.
