Former WWE star Eva Marie opens up about her divorce from Jonathan Coyle

The former WWE star finalised the divorce in mid-2025.

Former WWE alum and Total Divas star Natalie Eva Marie Nelson, aka Eva Marie, quietly finalized the divorce from her husband, Jonathan Coyle, in August 2025. Marie tied the knot with Coyle in 2014. However, in 2024, Marie filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage.

According to the petition filed by Marie, she and Coyle had been separated since the previous October. The former WWE star recently opened up about the relationship and the divorce proceedings in an interview with Page Six, noting that “It feels like so much longer than a year.”

“You have your initial process of filing and then figuring it out. Then you’re going through lawyers and all this stuff. So it feels like it’s not really surreal to me because I had to also sell the [marital house in Texas] and do all of these other little things to really solidify on paper that we were technically divorced,” She added.

Eva Marie revealed that changing her last name was difficult

During the conversation, Marie admitted that she was “thankful” that she and Coyle did not have children together, explaining that having kids would have made the separation more complicated and emotionally challenging. She also claimed that her ex-husband was unhappy with her decision to drop his surname.

“My compassion towards anybody going through it, regardless if you’re amicable or not, it’s just a lot of stuff that you don’t really think about,

Even going through changing my last name was a bitch and a half.”

When asked what led to the split, the former WWE star said that “it was a combination of many things.” In 2023, she became a co-host of the Hopeaholics podcast and launched the NEM Recovery Center in Laguna Beach, California.

This new career path also helped her realize that, unlike her parents’ relationship, her own marriage had begun to resemble a business partnership rather than a romantic relationship.

“You only have one life, and you know, with my marriage, we were like business partners, Marie shared, adding that she realized her parents’ 53-year “true blue, ride or die, love ’til death do you part” type of marriage was not the kind she was in.

I really felt like Jonathan and I were doing a disservice to one another because we just had a very transactional business relationship. We got along, we were totally best of buddies, but that’s not really what a marriage is, nor should it be, nor is that what I wanted it to be,” She said.

Eva left WWE in 2017 after both sides mutually agreed to part ways. She later returned in 2020, but was released in November 2021.
