The 17-time World Champion will hang up his boots at the end of 2025!
‘The 17-time WWE World Champion’ John Cena is currently on his farewell tour, which kicked off in January with Raw’s Netflix debut. He is set to retire at the end of 2025. In his return, Cena revealed his desire to win the 17th title.
Cena achieved this dream at WrestleMania 41 after defeating Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE title. However, despite Cena’s wish to retire with the title, he suffered defeat in a rematch against Rhodes at SummerSlam.
There are a total of eleven dates left before the ‘Greatest of all time’ hangs up his wrestling boots. While Cena is currently set to face Logan Paul in a singles match at Clash in Paris, fans have been wondering who his final opponent should be.
There are conflicting reports on Cena’s retirement match, with some reporting that WWE is targeting early December for the match, possibly during Saturday Night’s Main Event
Other reports suggest Cena’s long-awaited retirement match may be moved to directly compete with AEW’s year-end pay-per-view, Worlds End, on December 27, 2025.

Bubba Ray Dudley believes Bron Breakker should be John Cena’s final opponent

WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley, speaking on the Busted Open Radio Podcast, shared that he believes that ‘The Badass’ and former Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker should be the one to face the 17-time World Champion in his final match.
“Bron Breaker. I don’t want to see Seth Rollins in there with John. I don’t want to see Randy Orton in there with John. I don’t want to see Cody.
I don’t want to see any of that stuff. I want to see somebody that can benefit from this match … I’m sorry, I want to see somebody that can benefit from this moment. Because the entire thing is going to be about a moment. The match is going to be insignificant.
The moment is going to be when the bell rings and you are standing across the ring from John Cena in his last match in Boston. That’s the moment. You’re also going to be the guy in the ring with John Cena when the finish happens.”
Bubba explained that he doesn’t want to see veteran clash with Cena but rising stars who can benefit from the iconic moment, as the match is going to be insignificant.
WWE is divided on the outcome of the upcoming Brock Lesnar vs John Cena match

The feud between Brock Lesnar and John Cena was reignited at SummerSlam 2025 when Lesnar made his earth-shattering return and attacked Cena, who was coming off a loss, dropping the WWE title to Cody Rhodes in the main event.
WWE is planning for the showdown between the two to take place at a yet-to-be-announced premium live event on September 20, the same date as AEW All Out. This move is part of WWE’s intensified strategy to counter-program AEW pay-per-views amid ongoing efforts to push the rival promotion out of the market.
Although the event date appears locked in, a new report reveals that internal discussions are still ongoing, with no clear agreement on who should come out on top in the high-profile matchup.
According to BodySlam, Many within WWE are pushing for John Cena to defeat Brock Lesnar in the match, though some influential voices in the company argue Lesnar should win, given that it marks his return after a two-year absence.
