WWE HOF 'Immortal' Hulk Hogan dies at 71

The WWE HOF is no more.

WWE confirmed the passing of Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, on July 24, 202, after emergency responders rushed to his Clearwater, Florida, home for a reported cardiac arrest.

The WWE Hall of Famer was 71, leaving behind a multigenerational fan base that first rallied around “Hulkamania” in the 1980s. WWE issued a statement praising Hogan as “one of pop culture’s most recognizable figures” and extending condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

Paramedics and police arrived at Hulk Hogan’s residence shortly after dawn, transporting him by stretcher amid a significant medical presence outside the property.

TMZ first reported about Hogan’s death. They received a dispatch audio referencing Hogan’s sudden cardiac arrest. Though the family has yet to release an official medical report.

Hogan had undergone neck surgery in May, and his wife, Sky, recently denied rumors he was in a coma, insisting his heart was “strong” during recovery.

Debuting in 1979, Hogan’s towering frame, shredding entrances, and rally cry of “Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?” turned regional wrestling into a mainstream phenomenon.

He headlined eight of the first nine WrestleManias, held six WWE championships, and became the first wrestler inducted into the Hall of Fame twice, once individually in 2005 and again with the New World Order faction in 2020.

Beyond the ring, Hogan’s charisma fueled roles in Rocky III, Suburban Commando, and the reality series Hogan Knows Best, cemented him as a household name far beyond sports entertainment.

Superstars past and present took to social media within minutes of WWE’s announcement. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson once hailed Hogan as the “blueprint for global superstardom” in wrestling, while Ric Flair called him “the greatest attraction our business has ever known”.

WWE Chair Vince McMahon once praised Hogan’s “immeasurable influence,” noting that his 1984 title win over The Iron Sheik “launched an era we’re still feeling today”. Arena marquees from Tampa to Tokyo illuminated red and yellow in honor of the man who once called his 24-inch biceps “pythons of positivity”.
