John Cena stands firm on his relationship with Vince McMahon.

John Cena once again shows he doesn’t regret his personal relationship with Vince McMahon and isn’t ready to apologize for it. WWE legend, who always acknowledges McMahon as a person who helped him build up his career, stated that he has “no guilt nor shame” about keeping in touch with the former WWE boss.

Cena’s statement was provided in his recent interview with The Guardian, where the topic of his close connection with Vince McMahon and all the controversies around the former WWE boss was brought up.

Apparently, the matter is not about Cena’s attempts to defend McMahon in all cases, but about his ability to distinguish between a personal relationship and McMahon’s actions.

John Cena’s loyalty continues to come under the spotlight

In a lawsuit brought up against him by former WWE employee Janel Grant in 2024, McMahon has faced accusations of sexual assault and sex trafficking, among other forms of misconduct.

McMahon denies those accusations. The matter ended up being arbitrated privately, as the federal lawsuit was thrown out, but the two sides were allowed to arbitrate their cases.

Before, Cena has been criticized for declaring his love and respect towards McMahon despite all these accusations. However, he has made sure not to imply that his personal relationship should influence the consequences of his actions.

“Have no guilt nor shame about my friendship and my relationship with Vince McMahon,” Cena stated

Moreover, it is possible to love people even if they are imperfect. This has been shown in some of his earlier statements where Cena has admitted that his love and respect for McMahon do not “exonerate” him.

It thus makes his new position even more interesting because he is neither contesting the accusations nor trying to prove his innocence. On the contrary, Cena is asserting his own rights to have a personal relationship with someone who has greatly influenced his life and career.

Given Cena’s reputation as a wrestler who prides himself on his loyalty, discipline, and respect, his position is not surprising in any way.

McMahon was not just his old boss, but also his mentor who played a key role in developing one of the most successful wrestling careers in WWE. Interestingly, McMahon also never asked Cena to ‘turn heel‘, loving the character he perfected over the years.

Nevertheless, it is clear that Cena’s remarks will provoke controversy. People may oppose Cena for maintaining his relationship with McMahon, but Cena seems ready to take such criticism without a problem.
