Teddy Long could soon be back on the Blue Brand.

According to a report from Chairshot SportsHausen, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long is set to return as the General Manager of WWE SmackDown, stepping into a role he made iconic during the brand’s golden era.

The reported shake-up comes as current GM Nick Aldis is said to be eyeing a step back from his on-screen authority role to pursue an in-ring wrestling career at 39 years old.

Nick Aldis has served as SmackDown’s General Manager since October 2023, bringing a calm, authoritative presence to the blue brand. However, it appears the NWA legend still has unfinished business inside the squared circle.

At 39, Aldis reportedly feels the itch to lace up his boots once more, and WWE may be willing to accommodate that desire by transitioning him away from his executive duties. Should Aldis make the leap back to active competition, it would be a compelling storyline in its own right. A former authority figure stepping into the ring adds layers of drama that WWE storytellers would no doubt capitalize on.

Few names in WWE history carry the weight that Teddy Long does on SmackDown. During his legendary run as GM in the mid-2000s and into the 2010s, Long became one of the most beloved on-screen authority figures the company has ever produced.

His trademark catchphrases, unpredictable tag team matches, and larger-than-life personality made him a fan favourite for years. Long was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017, cementing his place among the all-time greats in sports entertainment history. A return to the GM chair would be a nostalgia-fuelled moment that could energize the SmackDown fanbase.

The timing of Long’s reported return is particularly noteworthy. The Hall of Famer is expected to lead SmackDown as it transitions back to a two-hour format in June, a major structural change for the show.

Having a familiar, beloved face at the helm during that shift could be a strategic move by WWE to reassure longtime fans while welcoming back viewers who may have drifted away. As of now, WWE has not officially confirmed the move, and fans will be watching SmackDown closely in the weeks ahead for any official announcement.

Why is Teddy Long returning to WWE SmackDown?

According to reports, Teddy Long is set to return as SmackDown GM following Nick Aldis’s expected departure from the role. Aldis is reportedly stepping away to revive his in-ring wrestling career, and Long, a proven and fan-favourite authority figure is being lined up to take the reins, particularly as the show prepares to return to a two-hour format in June.

Why is Nick Aldis leaving the SmackDown GM role?

Nick Aldis, who has served as SmackDown’s General Manager since October 2023, is reportedly looking to return to active in-ring competition at 39 years old. While no official confirmation has come from WWE, insiders suggest his passion for wrestling has prompted the potential transition away from his executive on-screen duties.
