Many WWE superstars have gone from everything to nothing.
The life of a WWE superstar is tougher than it looks from the outside. Among a pool of talented in-ring competitors, everyone aspires to greatness. However, only a select few are able to claim it. That success leads to fame, fortune, and stardom for these superstars.
While the company’s history has seen many rise to the top of the mountain, both personally and professionally, some have fallen right back to where they started. Here are the top five WWE superstars who amassed incredible wealth and later went broke:
5. Scott Hall
Scott Hall rose to prominence as the Bad Guy ‘Razon Ramon’ in the mid-1990s. He continued to command roaring success in WCW later on as part of the iconic faction, nWo.
During his prime, he made an incredible fortune; however, his addiction to substances became his downfall. By the time 2013 came around, he had become broke to the point that fellow WWE legend DDP had to pay his medical bills.

4. Joey Mercury
The popular wrestler from the tag team, MNM, Joey Mercury, had a major addiction to drugs since the age of 15. Despite making a good fortune as a WWE superstar, he lost all his money to that old demon.
It was then that his close friend and fellow WWE superstar, CM Punk, bought his house for him. This led to Mercury fighting his demons and began working as a producer for the company in 2017.
3. Perry Saturn
Perry Saturn was remembered for his time as part of the Radicalz in WWE. In 2004, in his bid to save a woman from a rape attempt, Saturn was shot in the back of his neck and right shoulder.
This led to a life of resorting to substances and addictive medication, which drove him penniless. He had a brief recovery, only to fall back into the same trap and lose every dime of his money.

2. Lex Luger
Lex Luger was the prime example of a top-caliber and highly successful WWE superstar in the 1990s. He rightfully earned the moniker of ‘The Total Package’ and earned a massive fortune in his time as a top wrestler. However, he was linked to the case of a drug overdose by his then-girlfriend.
Furthermore, he himself was surrounded by drugs and alcohol. All this led to Luger losing the money that he had made with years of work.
1. Batista
Following his huge success as a WWE superstar, Batista ventured to Hollywood in search of more opportunities in 2010.
However, things did not work out the way he wanted, and he had a failed career in the beginning, to the point that he lost all his wealth and was almost homeless. That was when he got his role as Drax in The Guardians of the Galaxy, which, as he said, saved his life.
When was Batista’s last WWE in-ring appearance?
Batista’s last in-ring appearance as a full-time wrestler was at WrestleMania 35 in 2019, where he faced Triple H in a No Holds Barred match.
When was Lex Luger inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
Lex Luger was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the Class of 2025. The induction ceremony took place on April 19, 2025.
When was Scott Hall inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
Scott Hall, better known among fans as “Razor Ramon,” was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice: first as a singles competitor in 2014, and again in 2020 as part of the New World Order (nWo).
