Randy Orton has struck Nick Aldis with too many RKO’s now

One of the most anticipated matchups of the summer could be on the horizon, as WWE is reportedly planning a blockbuster showdown between Randy Orton and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis at SummerSlam 2025.

According to WrestleVotes and Hall of Fame journalist Bill Apter, all signs point to The Viper finally going one-on-one with the former NWA World Champion.

The feud between Orton and Aldis has been brewing for over a year. At Backlash 2025, Randy Orton not only headlined against John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship but once again delivered an RKO to Aldis, marking the third time he’s attacked the GM in less than 12 months. This long-simmering tension could finally explode at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

Wrestling legend and journalist Bill Apter added fuel to the speculation while speaking on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge:

“Oh, I wanna see that. I don’t know what they’re gonna do with Randy at SummerSlam, but I think that would be a very good spot for that. For that show, I think that match would be terrific. The fans would really wanna see that.”[from 28:53]

Backing Apter’s claims, WrestleVotes chimed in with an even stronger confirmation:

“100% agree with Bill there. I think SummerSlam seems likely. Couple weeks ago, we reported on WrestleVotes Radio that Nick Aldis is willing and ready when the storyline permits. If they’ve figured it out with him and Orton and they’ve come to a date, then I say let’s rock and roll.”[from 29:12]

While Aldis has yet to officially compete in a WWE ring since becoming GM of SmackDown, fans have long awaited his in-ring debut under the WWE banner.

The 38-year-old veteran has had a decorated run outside WWE, notably holding the NWA World Title, and a clash with a legend like Orton would be a marquee bout worthy of a grand stage like SummerSlam.

Whether it’s officially booked in the coming weeks or teased further on SmackDown, a Randy Orton vs. Nick Aldis match would be a major draw for WWE’s summer calendar.

If Aldis is finally ready to throw hands, there’s no better first opponent than the Apex Predator himself. WWE SummerSlam just might be the battleground where Aldis stops managing and starts fighting.
