WWE News - Seth Rollins' unexplained absence & Cody Rhodes heel turn after Sunday Night’s Main Event

Seth Rollins has been absent from programming since SummerSlam.

‘The Visionary’ Seth Rollins failed to dethrone Roman Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam Night 2 and capture the World Heavyweight title once again. However, since the loss, the Visionary has been absent from WWE programming without any explanation.

Now, a new update from WrestleVotes has provided some context on Rollins’ absence and his potential return. Votes added that Rollins’ name hasn’t come up much in recent backstage talk. He is still expected back relatively soon, though no return date has been set.

“The thing that I heard about Seth Rollins following SummerSlam is that this absence wasn’t supposed to be prolonged, but now we’re at week five. Next week will be week six.

So unless something changes, I haven’t heard his name in a while. He’ll be back relatively soon.”

The outlet had earlier confirmed that Rollins’ absence is not related to any injury and was rather a creative break. The earlier report also mentioned his potential return around Money in the Bank PLE.

Is Cody Rhodes turning heel after Sunday Night’s Main Event?

‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes has slowly been transitioning to a more unhinged and ruthless version. This was once again visible during his match against Randy Orton at the September 6 edition of Sunday Night’s Main Event, where Rhodes’ antics fueled once again speculations of his heel turn.

During Monday’s WrestleVotes Live Q&A on Fightful Select, Votes was asked if the recent developments involving Randy Orton could result in a significant character change for Cody.

In response, WrestleVotes noted that a full heel turn for the former Undisputed Champion is not in the cards. One factor reportedly working against a complete transformation is Rhodes’ strong merchandise value.

“In the moment, don’t see a full heel turn for Cody Rhodes. It’s not in the cards. Haven’t heard it. There are many reasons for that. One being he is extremely popular with people who spend money on merchandise, and that goes a long way. The analytics matter.

You’re not gonna take a guy like that and switch him and lose millions and millions of dollars for the benefit of the television. The story should come first, but that’s not how they think about it.

However, that did not rule out WWE giving him a more aggressive edge, with the outlet suggesting the promotion could explore a darker version of the character without turning him fully heel.

“A darker side, maybe.”
