John Cena is still our Undisputed WWE Champion

In a match that had emotion, callbacks, and controversy, John Cena successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk in the main event of WWE Night of Champions 2025.

But this was far from a clean or typical victory, as the finish was drenched in chaos, betrayal, and interference from a slew of stars.

A technical chess match turns physical

The WWE bout began with both veterans showcasing their wrestling IQ in a series of technical exchanges. CM Punk gained the upper hand with an elbow drop off the top rope and teased an early GTS.

John Cena countered, locking in the STF, which CM Punk reversed into the Anaconda Vice. The transitions between holds reflected the mutual familiarity, but it wasn’t long before the match escalated.

Cena connected with an Attitude Adjustment, but Punk refused to stay down. Moments later, Punk raked Cena’s eyes and fired off a DDT before cinching in the STF himself. Cena escaped by grabbing the bottom rope, only for Punk to keep the pressure on with a corner splash.

Near falls, broken referees, and moral decisions

John Cena battled back and delivered two successive Attitude Adjustments, but Punk continued to show heart, kicking out each time.

Cena even contemplated using the Undisputed WWE Championship belt as a weapon, but the crowd’s disapproval swayed him away from it. Punk capitalized with a GTS, but the referee was down and unable to count the fall.

Then came the twist: Seth Rollins arrived flanked by Paul Heyman, Bronson Reed, and Bron Breakker. Rollins signaled for his faction to attack Punk, but ‘The Second City Saint’ fought them off with a burst of adrenaline.

Despite a valiant effort, the numbers game caught up with Punk, until Penta and Sami Zayn evened the odds in a wild sequence that spilled across the stage and ringside.

John Cena wins again with a controversial finish

After the chaos and back in the ring, Cena and Punk shared a handshake and a hug, seemingly out of mutual respect. But Cena attempted to blindside Punk, only for Rollins to strike first, blasting Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase and delivering a Curb Stomp.

Cena capitalized on the assault and pinned Punk to retain the title in stunning fashion.

John Cena remains the Undisputed WWE Champion, but the way he won will leave fans talking and CM Punk demanding revenge.

Winner: John Cena
