Carlito facing backlash for his comments during the backstage segment

Last night’s episode of WWE Raw saw a controversial moment unfold involving Carlito. After a segment featuring Adam Pearce and Damage CTRL members IYO SKY and Kairi Sane, Carlito made a remark that left many viewers stunned.

Entering Pearce’s office, Carlito referred to SKY and Sane—both Japanese wrestlers—as Chinese. The comment quickly drew backlash online, with fans and industry figures alike calling out the casual racism in the statement.

Among those who voiced their concerns was independent wrestler Kevin Ku, who took to social media to express his discontent with the remark. Ku, like many others, felt the Puerto Rican’s line was not only offensive but indicative of a larger issue regarding racial sensitivity in wrestling.

The big question now is whether Carlito improvised the line or if it was scripted by WWE’s creative team. According to a report from Fightful Select, the line was not part of the WWE Raw script, and Carlito likely said it on his own.

A WWE staff member reportedly expressed “disbelief” that the comment was made at all, further fueling speculation about Carlito’s decision.

WWE has since removed the line from the segment’s digital clips, editing it out entirely in the versions posted online. The clip begins after Carlito’s entry, focusing on his conversation with Pearce.

Internally, the reaction has been just as negative, with sources within WWE unhappy with the situation. However, it remains unclear if the Puerto Rican will face any repercussions for his actions, and as of now, neither The Judgement Day member, SKY, Sane, nor anyone else involved in the segment has publicly commented on the incident.

This incident is particularly sensitive for IYO SKY, who has dealt with racism before during her time in NXT. Years ago, a fan harassed SKY during a show, telling her to “go back to China.” SKY, however, handled the situation with poise, responding, “I’m Japanese, b***h,” much to the delight of the crowd.

For now, WWE fans and insiders alike are left wondering what, if any, disciplinary action will be taken and whether Carlito’s future with the company could be affected by this misstep.
