Oba Femi left the NXT title in the ring after retaining it in the main event.
WWE’s developmental brand was set to kick off 2026 with a special presentation, as NXT New Year’s Evil took place on January 6, 2026, from the Capitol Wrestling Center at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
The sixth annual WWE NXT: New Year’s Evil and seventh overall aired live as a special episode of NXT on The CW. Blake Monroe attacked NXT Women’s North American Champion, Thea Hail, during the opening moments of the show. GM Ava was irked by the situation and banned Monroe from ringside and cancelled the scheduled title clash.
Ava informed Hail that her title match was being postponed, but the Champion insisted on issuing an Open Challenge instead. Ava agreed and made the match official for later in the show.
Rick Saints cut a promo stating that he had his eyes on the NXT Championship match in the main event. Meanwhile, Tatum Paxley vs. Izzi Dame was announced as the opening match of the show, where Paxley emerged victorious.
Furthermore, Jacy Jayne defeated WWE Women’s Evolve Champion Kendal Gray, retaining the NXT Women’s Championship, while Izzi Dame answered the NXT NA Women’s title open challenge to defeat an injured Champion and capture the title.
In the main event of the show, NXT Champion Oba Femi defeated TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater to retain the NXT title. However, after the win, he left the title in the ring as the show came to a close.
Two titles will be contested next week

The promotion has revealed several marquee bouts for next week’s episode of the developmental brand, including a No Disqualification contest and a Speed Championship match, along with a singles match.
Joe Hendry will battle Dion Lennox in a No Disqualification match after being attacked by DarkState last week. Ava made the match official during New Year’s Evil, and Hendry tried to recruit OTM to help neutralize DarkState and prevent interference during the bout.
In addition, Jasper Troy puts the WWE Men’s Speed Championship on the line against Tavion Heights. Elsewhere on the card, TNA International Champion Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo is set to defend his title against Shiloh Hill.
The match will go on as advertised if Stacks retains the championship against Steve Maclin on the January 8 episode of TNA iMPACT. Additionally, after this week’s brawl, Lola Vice and Kelani Jordan will lock horns in a singles match next week.
