Solo Sikoa turns on Roman Reigns in a stunning main event swerve; Oba Femi vs Bron Breakker announced for Sunday Night’s Main Event

The August 17 edition of Monday Night Raw went down live from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The show followed up on Solo Sikoa’s loss to Jey Uso the previous week, with Sikoa set to report back to Roman Reigns and The Bloodline as part of the fallout.

Two more matches in the World Heavyweight Championship number one contender’s tournament took place, alongside an Intercontinental Championship defense from Chad Gable and continued tension between Liv Morgan, Stephanie Vaquer, and Becky Lynch. The show closed with a major angle involving Reigns, The Usos, Jacob Fatu, Solo Sikoa, and LA Knight.

Get to know everything that happened this Monday, as we have the complete summary, highlights, results, and winners’ list for the 8/17 episode of WWE Raw.

WWE Raw Summary and Highlights

(Courtesy: WWE.com)
  • Stephanie Vaquer called out Liv Morgan for a fight, taking shots at every Women’s World Champion who came before and after her. Morgan and The Judgment Day jumped Vaquer, who eventually got backup from Becky Lynch.
  • Lynch and Vaquer evened the numbers, but the two former champions ended up face to face in a tense standoff of their own before The Judgment Day capitalized and laid both women out. It was later announced backstage that Vaquer will return next week for the first time since WrestleMania, with both her and Lynch still eyeing the Women’s World Championship.
  • Je’Von Evans vs JD McDonagh: Evans won the match with an OG Cutter after battling through knee work from McDonagh and outside interference. Post-match, Big Cass attacked Evans and laid him out despite a spirited comeback that included a suicide dive. Dominik Mysterio’s interference allowed Cass to finish the job, leaving Evans down after being driven into the barricade.
  • Rey Fenix vs El Fiscal – World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament first round match: Fenix defeated El Fiscal with a Mexican Muscle Buster to advance in the tournament.
  • Sol Ruca vs Lyra Valkyria: Ruca won after countering Valkyria with a reversal DDT followed by a Sol Snatcher.
  • Bron Breakker called out Oba Femi, but Paul Heyman answered instead, needling Breakker over who he really believes is the future of WWE. Femi’s music interrupted before Heyman could respond, and Femi declared himself the future, invoking Brock Lesnar’s endorsement from earlier in the summer. Heyman then announced that Oba Femi will face Bron Breakker at Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Breakker’s hometown.
  • Dragon Lee vs El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. – World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament first round match: Lee defeated Wagner Jr. with Operation Dragon in what was called one of the night’s best matches, setting up a second round meeting between Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix.
  • Chad Gable vs Rey Mysterio – Intercontinental Championship match: Chad Gable retained the title over Mysterio in a back-and-forth contest that saw both men trade near falls and ankle lock escapes before Gable countered a Mysterio rollup attempt with one of his own for the win.
  • Main event angle: Roman Reigns called for The Usos to bring Solo Sikoa to the ring. Reigns aired a vignette of his Tribal Combat win over Sikoa from Raw’s Netflix debut before snatching and stomping on Sikoa’s glasses. Jacob Fatu hit Sikoa with a superkick and a Tongan Death Grip before Reigns called him off.
  • Reigns anointed The Usos as his captains, prompting LA Knight to run in and clear them from the ring. Fatu overpowered Knight before Reigns stopped him and hit Knight with a Superman Punch, then ordered Solo Sikoa to finish Knight off.
  • Sikoa teased a Samoan Spike on Knight but turned and hit Reigns instead. Sikoa and Knight then cleared The Bloodline out of the ring together to close the show, confirming Sikoa’s betrayal of Roman Reigns and The Bloodline.
