The Ring General made his return tonight at MSG.
‘The Ring General’ Gunther made his first appearance tonight since losing the World Heavyweight title against CM Punk at SummerSlam. He made his return on the November 17 episode of Monday Night Raw to compete in the tournament to decide John Cena’s final opponent.
Gunther battled NXT’s Je’Von Evans in one of the two first-round matches announced for tonight’s show. Sheamus, Rusev, Jey Uso, and LA Knight have advanced in the tournament.
The bell rang as Gunther started out hot, with Evans trying to outmaneuver him using his speed. The Ring General took over the landing, thudding chops and a big boot that flatlined Evans, before the commercials.
Apart from a few offenses from Evans, Gunther controlled the action during the commercials, further punishing the young NXT talent.

Back from commercials, Evans once again tried to rally, but Gunther locked in a Boston Crab. Evans fought out of the hold only to eat a backbreaker. The Ring General locked in the sleeper hold, but Evans escaped, sending the former Champion outside.
The Ring General caught Evans mid-air outside to slam him into the apron to halt the momentum and take a breather. The punishment continued again, with the former Champion slamming the WWE NXT talent onto the barricade.
Evans managed to break the ten-count, stepping into the ring only to suffer vicious chops. Evans refused to stay down, despite the chops and delivering chops of his own.
The chop battle continued, and The Ring General delivered a big boot as Evans managed to deliver a cutter, followed by a Suicide Dive through the ropes. Back in the ring, Evans went up top to deliver a Splash, another one from the other side, but failed to pin the former World Champion.
The Ring General fought his way back with a vicious powerslam and locked in the Sleeper Hold. Evans refused to give up, as the former World Champion sunk the choke further, forcing Evans to tap out.
