John Cena is a grand slam champion!
This week’s WWE RAW opened on an emotional note in Boston, Massachusetts, as Triple H stood in the ring to deliver a heartfelt introduction for John Cena. The Game spoke passionately about greatness in professional wrestling its subjectivity, its meaning, and its legacy before declaring that Cena stood above them all.
“For me, [John Cena] is without a doubt, the greatest of all-time. It is my honor to bring him out here now for you all.” said Triple H.
The 17-time world champion received a thunderous ovation as he made his way to the ring, soaking in every second of what he called his final night competing in his hometown.
John Cena addressed the crowd, reflecting on his upcoming retirement and his mission to leave WWE better than he found it. He announced that his final match will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, a night he promised would spotlight the next generation of stars.
Before he could finish thanking his Boston fans, the moment was interrupted by WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio.
Dominik Mysterio picks the wrong fight
Mysterio, brimming with arrogance, confronted both Cena and Triple H, demanding respect as the “greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time.”
The crowd drowned him out with expletive-laced chants, but Dominik continued undeterred, dismissing Cena as a washed-up legend and claiming he could have beaten him in any era.
Cena, with his trademark composure, warned Mysterio that he had chosen the wrong time and place to run his mouth, not in Boston, and certainly not in front of its favorite son. Triple H stepped in and made the match official on the spot: Dominik Mysterio would defend the Intercontinental Championship against John Cena, right there, right now.
John Cena makes history in Boston!
The match began with Dominik using his quickness and cunning to keep Cena grounded, even trying to walk out on the contest. Cena, fueled by the Boston crowd, battled back and weathered the champion’s underhanded tactics, including a failed Eddie Guerrero Special and several referee distractions.
Mysterio nearly stole the win after hitting a 619 and a frog splash, but Cena rolled through the cover and hoisted him up for an Attitude Adjustment. The crowd erupted as the referee counted three and John Cena had finally done it. After over two decades in WWE, Cena became the Intercontinental Champion for the first time in his storied career.
As Boston showered him with “Thank you, Cena” chants, the legend held the title high, tears in his eyes. It was a crowning moment, not just for the championship victory, but for a career defined by heart, respect, and an unbreakable bond with the WWE Universe.
Result: John Cena beats Dominik Mysterio via pinfall.
