WWE Raw Summary and Highlights
Gunther
World Heavyweight Champion Gunther kicked off Monday Night Raw in Sacramento. Michael Cole was surprised by his appearance, as the interview had been scheduled for later that night, but he stepped into the ring to join the Champion who already looked impatient.
Cole started the interview and asked about Jey Uso’s segment from the previous week, and Gunther responded by telling everyone that Jey was full of crap, as the crowd drowned the Ring General in boos. Cole was about to ask another question when the crowd erupted in “Yeet” chants. Gunther grabbed the mic from Cole and lashed out at the crowd, stating that he was the greatest gift the company had ever received.
He declared himself the greatest World Heavyweight Champion of all time in the WWE and said he refused to let someone like Jey Uso ruin that for him. The Ring General sent a warning to Jey, reminding him that he still couldn’t lace his boots and that he would be put down for the fourth consecutive time.
“You suck” chants filled the arena as Gunther reminded Jey how he had taken a bath in his brother’s blood and told him to pray to the Lord—because if Gunther had not been in full control, he would have drowned both of them in Jimmy’s blood. Gunther declared that he would walk out of WrestleMania still the World Heavyweight Champion and left the ring.
Bayley vs Liv Morgan
Ahead of their tag team clash, Bayley accompanied by Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria took on one-half of the WWE Women’s Champion, Liv Morgan who was accompanied by her tag partner Raquel Rodriguez.
The two stars put on a great match as expected with few cheap shots and interference from Raquel as expected. However, in the final moments of the match, Valkyria took out a page from Rodriguez’s book as Valkyria held Bayley by her legs to avoid Morgan who was going for the oblivion as Bayley rolled up Liv for a cover to pick up the win ahead of their Mania clash.
Rey Mysterio vs Julius Creed
In the second match of the show, LWO’s Latino World Order (Dragon Lee, Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro) Rey Mysterio battled American Made’s (Chad Gable, Ivy Nile & Brutus Creed) Julius Creed. American Made’s interference forced LWO to do the same but the referee has had enough as he sent both factions backstage.
The battle continued as Creed showcased brute strength manhandling Mysterio who picked his shots wisely. In the final moments of the show, Julius again went for the attack, but Mysterio ducked and sent Creed flying out of the ring. El Grande Americano then appeared as Mysterio attacked him. Creed capitalized and went for the attack, but Mysterio pushed him, sending him crashing into Americano and taking him out.
Mysterio landed the 619 and followed it with the final flurry, into the cover. Rey Mysterio defeated Julius Creed. El Grande Americano attacked Rey Mysterio after the match as LWO’s Joaquin Wilde tried to help, but Julius caught him. Then, Dragon Lee made his entrance.
Americano took out Lee and landed a splash from the top rope onto Mysterio, flaunting in front of the crowd. We cut to a shot backstage, showing Americano once again putting the metal piece in his mask.
AJ Styles vs Karrion Kross
After their heated interaction backstage last week where Karrion Kross wanted AJ Styles to unleash his more dangerous side heading into his WrestleMania 41 clash against Logan Paul, Styles and Kross locked horns as announced, with Karrion bringing back that old entrance and persona.
Scarlett accompanying Kross also interfered in the match as Karrion put a beating on Styles while mocking him. However, in the end, Styles rallied to land the phenomenal forearm to pick up the win ahead of his clash against Logan Paul.
Speaking of Logan Paul, the Maverick appeared after the match with a mic in his hand, Paul asked the Sacramento crowd to chill, as he was just there to congratulate Styles. The crowd continued booing Logan, who mocked them and then stated that Styles had shown them why their match at WrestleMania was going to cook.
Paul then played a promo recapping his accomplishments in WWE as well as outside. Styles fired back, advising Logan not to wait until Mania and to step into the ring right now. Karrion Kross tried to sneak attack Styles, but Styles fought back and attacked, then turned his attention to Logan.
Styles took out Karrion, but the numbers game caught up with him as Logan landed a brutal jab, followed by the pulverizer. Paul stood tall as he pointed towards Styles, mocking the crowd.
Jey Uso
Jey Uso embraced Pat McAfee and Michael Cole as he climbed onto the announce desk and picked up the mic. The crowd was firmly behind Jey as they asked for the music once again. Jey put the glasses back on and asked WWE to play the music as the crowd started “yeeting” again.
Jey picked up the mic and stated that he wanted to come out there to talk to his people. He then addressed Gunther’s promo from earlier, stating that Gunther was afraid Jey would whoop his a** in front of 60,000 people.
Jey put the glasses back on and asked for the music again as the Sacramento crowd began “yeeting” once more. While he didn’t join in with the crowd during his entrance, during his exit Jey joined the crowd in “yeeting”.
Backstage
Cathy Kelly was backstage with Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker as she asked him about the fatal-four-way title defense at WrestleMania 41. Breakker stated that it was obviously the biggest title defense of his career, but then the Judgment Day arrived.
The Judgment Day ambushed Breakker, sending him crashing into the production box. Balor mocked him and continued to attack. WWE security and officials rushed in to diffuse the situation as the scene cut back to the arena.
Penta vs Finn Balor
In the final match of the show, Penta and Finn Balor locked horns in a singles match ahead of their fatal-four-way clash at WrestleMania, this was their first singles meeting in the WWE. Both stars battled for control showcasing their wrestling prowess, but the mood shifted in the match as Carlito appeared.
Balor capitalized and rolled up for another cover, but Breakker kicked out as Finn landed the Slingblade. Balor went for the top rope just as Bron Breakker’s music hit, and the IC Champion made his entrance. Carlito had a flashback and quickly ran away as Breakker attacked Balor.
Dominik Mysterio then appeared and attacked Bron, with Carlito joining in. Breakker fought back, taking out both of them with a double spear. Breakker lined up Penta for a spear, but Penta fought back with a kick and sent him flying out of the ring. Penta then took out everyone with a crossbody from the top rope.
Backstage
Paul Heyman was backstage, awaiting Roman Reigns’ arrival when CM Punk joined him and stated that he hadn’t seen him this stressed. Punk asked, “Look into my eyes, what do you see?”
Heyman replied, “A cult of personality,” just as Roman Reigns arrived and saw the two of them cozying up. Reigns appeared irked as Heyman tried to catch up with him. Reigns then made his entrance, with Heyman following him.
Roman Reigns – Seth Rollins – CM Punk
The OTC stepped into the ring as Heyman went on to hand him the mic. Reigns refused and asked for a mic from the production crew. Reigns asked the Sacramento crowd to acknowledge their Tribal Chief, and the crowd obliged. Roman stated that while the crowd wouldn’t betray him, some people might.
The OTC turned to his Wiseman and asked, “How could you betray me?” “You f*cked up” chants rained down on Paul as Reigns asked again. Heyman tried to speak, but the crowd drowned him out with boos, followed by “a**hole” chants.
The Wiseman replied that it wasn’t a betrayal; he had only returned a favor he owed. Reigns fired back, pointing out that the only one getting screwed in this favor was him. The OTC stated that he would never ask for a favor, but he would take what he wanted.
Roman then asked why he should cover for Heyman’s dumbass favor when he hadn’t asked for any favors—neither at WarGames nor at any other time. Seth Rollins’ music hit as The Visionary made his entrance, and Reigns visibly got irked by his presence. Rollins stated that Reigns had finally been able to get all the pieces together, but it was too little too late because he would end him at WrestleMania.
Seth stated that the triple-threat clash was the most important match in the history of WWE because the winner would define the future of the industry. Rollins said that it couldn’t be Reigns, since he didn’t show up unless it was convenient for him. He claimed that if Reigns won, the business would die.
Rollins then went off on Punk, reminding everyone how Punk took it when things got tough, and stated that his winning would also mean the business would die. The Visionary said that he would do what’s best for business and that there could only be one, and that would be him. He also added that as for the little piece that Roman hadn’t figured out.
Rollins stated that favors were given, as he hadn’t stomped Heyman last week, and now it was up to Heyman to grant him a favor. Rollins explained that Heyman wasn’t in CM Punk’s corner by chance, but by choice, because he wasn’t just returning the favor—he was choosing. Now, Reigns had to figure out why Heyman was choosing Punk over him.
Reigns picked up the mic and stated that Rollins was right. Heyman had made his choice, and now he had made his. Reigns attacked Rollins, taking him down with a vicious clothesline.
Heyman was very happy, stating that he acknowledged his Tribal Chief, but Reigns was having none of it as he pushed Heyman, causing him to fall. CM Punk’s music hit as the Second City Saint darted in, attacking Reigns and sending the OTC out of the ring.
Punk then checked on Heyman as Roman came out, taking out Punk with a vicious spear. Rollins, now with a chair shot, delivered it exactly like the Shield betrayal, followed by a stomp to CM Punk, then another stomp to Roman Reigns. The Visionary stood tall as Paul Heyman looked on in disbelief, with Roman Reigns and CM Punk lying flat on the mat.
