WWE Raw Summary and Highlights

LA Knight confronts Seth Rollins

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – AUGUST 02: Seth Rollins celebrates after winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract to take on CM Punk during the WWE 2025 SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium on August 02, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Seth Rollins and his crew stepped into the ring as the Visionary embraced Bron Breakker and Paul Heyman. Bronson Reed looked for the same treatment, but Rollins was too busy running around the ring, soaking in the atmosphere.

Heyman picked up the mic, calling himself the G.O.A.T., and then turned his attention to Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. With a smirk, he said that this was the moment he would normally introduce “The OTC,” Roman Reigns, but pointed out that Reigns hadn’t held a title for over a year and a half.

Heyman continued mockingly, saying he should be introducing the new Champion, the best in the world, CM Punk, but Punk’s title reigns ended so quickly that WWE didn’t make side plates for him. Then, he handed the mic to Rollins, who turned on the Brooklyn crowd immediately, scolding them for turning their backs on him after he won the main event at WrestleMania.

He called them out for taunting him with “CM PUNK” chants and reminded them who truly delivered when it mattered. He continued his tirade, shaming every single fan who ever doubted him and every locker room star who tried to stop him from cashing in the Money in the Bank contract. Rollins proudly declared that he always had a Plan B, a secret known only to two people: his wife, Becky Lynch, and his Oracle, Paul Heyman.

Rollins proclaimed that nobody could stop them. This, he said, was the way forward. This was the Vision. Suddenly, LA Knight’s music hit and Knight walked into the ring, nodded toward the crowd, and sarcastically congratulated the Visionary, the Oracle, and “the morons.” He made it clear he wasn’t there to fight, yet.

Knight then questioned Rollins’ supposed injury, asking why, when he still had the briefcase, he was faking it. He hinted that the injury was just a cover for something else. Knight reminded everyone that he had already defeated Rollins at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and after what he saw at SummerSlam, he knew he had to show up in Brooklyn.

He told Rollins he intended to beat him again, only this time, it would be for the World Heavyweight Championship. Knight floated the idea of doing it right here, right now. Rollins fired back, asking if Knight truly thought he didn’t have the guts to defend the title. Then, with a smirk, Rollins simply said: “No.” He turned and left the ring.

That was when General Manager Adam Pearce appeared on stage. Pearce admitted he wouldn’t normally book a World title match without any promotion, but added that normally, a World Champion wouldn’t lie to his General Manager. He then officially announced that the World Heavyweight Championship would be on the line tonight in Brooklyn: Seth Freakin Rollins vs LA Knight.

And to level the playing field, Pearce added one more twist: since Rollins stole a great moment from the fans at SummerSlam, he would do the same: Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed would be banned from ringside.

Grade: B+

Key Takeaways & Moments:

  • The segment didn’t had much to do with CM Punk, given how Rollins followed on his promise and snubbed Punk of the title.
  • In a backstage segment after the promo, Judgment Day were all smiles after Dominik Mysterio retained the IC title as the group ran into the Latino World Order. Dom demanded respect as the king of the luchadors, but Dragon Lee responded by saying if Dom wanted respect, he’d have to earn it in the ring. Dominik accepted the challenge for a match.
  • AJ Styles then approached Mysterio. Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh stepped in his way, but AJ said he wasn’t there to fight. He gave Dominik credit for being clever with the boot, but warned him that eventually, he’d run out of tricks. Styles reminded him that, hold for hold, he was still one of the best.

Sheamus vs Rusev

Sheamus and Rusev met in the rubber match as they were 1-1 since Rusev’s return in April. Similar to their earlier matches, this too was a battering affair with both men trying to inflict as much damage as possible.

However, the two were so involved in damage that they forgot to break the count and the referee called off the match, while Sheamus was attacking Rusev near the barricade. The two men started brawling after the match, and continued brawling untill security got some seperation between the two.

Winner: Double count-out draw

Grade: B+

Key Takeaways & Moments:

  • Another great match by Sheamus and Rusev, who seem to deliver every single time.
  • In an “earlier” footage, Grayson Waller confronted GM Adam Pearce, who was talking to Penta. Waller stated that he was representing the New Day and demanded that the GM give them a title shot.
  • Pearce pointed out that he was in the middle of a conversation with Penta. Waller went off on Penta, who took a step forward, but Pearce stepped in between them. Pearce then fired back, saying the New Day would have to earn their title shot. He added that Waller had just talked himself into a match against Penta.

Penta vs Grayson Waller

Following the backstage interaction, Grayson Waller took on Penta, once again with the New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) not by his side. The New Day did make an appearance eventually and were on the commentary. Despite Waller’s athleticism, he was unable to pin Penta who landed the Mexican destroyer to defeat Waller.

The New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) stepped into the ring after the match and confronted Penta. Woods began berating Penta, but Penta responded by shoving him away. Woods crashed into Kofi, who was checking on Waller. The New Day tried to retaliate, but Penta took them both down with a suicide dive through the ropes, sending them crashing to the outside.

Winner: Penta

Grade: C

Key Takeaways:

  • Penta is still a fan favorite and can easily regain the momentum with a good storyline.

Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss (c) vs Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez – Women’s Tag Team titles match

After their heated segment, the newly crowned Women’s Tag Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defended the titles against the former Champions, Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez.

The former Champions executed their game plan well in the first half of the match, isolating and targeting the Champions, but it all came crashing down in an instant as Bliss intercepted a suicide dive attempt by Perez to land the Sister Abigail DDT and pick up the win to retain the titles.

Winner: Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss

Grade: B

Key Takeaways & Moments:

  • This was Charlotte’s first match on Monday Night Raw in four years, per Michael Cole.
  • The match was set up after their heated segment, where Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez challenged the newly crowned Women’s Tag Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss to a rematch from SummerSlam.
  • In a backstage segment, Iyo Sky was with the Kabuki Warriors when Rhea Ripley approached and said she heard Iyo had requested a title rematch from Adam Pearce. Iyo reminded her she wasn’t the one who got pinned. Rhea said she’d love to see Iyo beat Naomi, then turned to leave, but Iyo reminded her that she would never beat her.

Dominik Mysterio vs Dragon Lee

Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee locked horns in a singles match, following their backstage segment earlier in the show. In the latter half of the match, Lee was in control and was looking for a big win, but an interference from not just one but three El Grande Americanos cost him. The first one only caused a distraction.

Lee was able to handle the second El Grande, who stepped on the apron, but the third one managed to attack, and Mysterio capitalized, picking up the win. After the match, Msyetrio took out his boot and went to attack Lee, who was saved by AJ Styles

Winner: Dominik Mysterio

Grade: C+

Key Takeaways & Moments:

  • Michael Cole accidentally called AJ Styles, AJ Lee, during the match commentary.
  • WWE is likely looking to run back the clash between Dominik Mysterio and AJ Styles.
  • Since Chad Gable’s absence, El Grande Americano’s character has been on random quests, unclear of what form his storyline will take.

Backstage

Sami Zayn was interviewed backstage by Jackie Redmond. He said it wasn’t about proving people wrong, but he kept replaying the moment in the match where he held the steel pipe. He admitted that someone like Scarlett or Karrion Kross would’ve loved to see him use it, and even some fans probably would too, but that’s not who he wanted to be.

For him, it wasn’t just about who he was, but who he was trying to become. He said he wanted to be a world champion and to do it the right way. Suddenly, Sheamus and Rusev came brawling through backstage. Sami got caught in the chaos, tried to separate the two, but took a punch from Rusev that busted his lip.

Becky Lynch attacks Nikki Bella

Lynch picked up the mic stating that Lyra Valkyria would not be able to challenge for the title until she is the champion, which was going to be a long time, and she could now focus on new challengers. Lynch clarified that she would not focus on new challengers tonight and while physically she was fine but then Nikki Bella’s music hit as the Hall of Famer appeared.

Bella stepped into the ring, acknowledging that Becky was one of the greatest. Becky corrected her, stating, “the” greatest. Nikki continued to laud Becky, but then stated that Lynch had so much potential but turned out to be a disappointment.

Bella asked why Becky came back, stating she was jealous of new talents like Lyra Valkyria and because Hollywood turned out not like Becky thought. Lynch fired back, reminding Nikki about her new movie and the reach she had in Hollywood. Nikki fired back, stating that Becky was a liar just like her husband and was as insecure now as she was during her debut years.

Lynch warned Nikki not to talk about her husband and then brought up Nikki’s failed relationship with John Cena as the crowd lost their minds and “HOLY SHIT!” chants erupted.

“Me & my hot husband are the greatest wrestling couple of all time… But wait a minute at one point that would of been… But you can’t see him anymore!”

Nikki then floated the idea of Becky putting the Women’s IC title on the line, Lynch went to clarify why the two never battled each other but knocked down the Hall of Famer with a cheap shot.

Grade: B

Key Takeaways & Moments:

  • The promo generated a lot of buzz among fans who now want to see the two veterans battle for the IC title.
  • Fans’ explosive reaction to Lynch’s jab at Bella about Cena showed just how much fans love a raw, personal moment that blurs the line between reality and storyline.
  • In a backstage segment, Stephanie Vaquer confronted Naomi, both women exchanged warnings ahead of their title match at Clash in Paris.
  • Michael Cole on commentary informed that Gunther will be out of action “indefinitely” due to a septal hematoma and orbital blowout fracture

Seth Rollins (c) vs LA Knight – World Heavyweight Champion match

The newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, defended his title for the first time against LA Knight in the main event of the show. The animosity between the two took center stage as Paul Heyman looked on, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed were banned from ringside.

In the final moments of the match, Rollins removed the padding and was about to stomp Knight on the concrete floor, but CM Punk came out and ambushed Rollins. However, he was quickly outnumbered as Breakker and Reed rushed in to aid Rollins, Knight tried to fight them off but both men fell prey to the voilence. Seth and company celebrated the beatdown and went to leave when Roman Reigns appeared.

Rollins ran away from Roman, who took out Breakker and Reed and went on to chase Rollins but was once again dragged into a brawl by Reed and Breakker. Rollins capitalized on the distraction and took out Reigns with a vicious stomp. Breakker then landed a spear, followed by three devastating Tsunamis by Reed, who stole Reigns’ sneakers once again.

Winner: Seth Rollins via DQ

Grade: B+

Key Takeaways:

  • Fans have been speculating about who the third man might be to stand against Rollins and his crew and it’s LA Knight. WWE should capitalize on his momentum and give him a title run. The Megastar has proven he’s more than capable of headlining PLEs.
  • Punk’s promo about the title loss at the hands of Seth Rollins would be legendary.
