WWE Raw Summary and Highlights

- Backstage, Cody Rhodes confronted Sami Zayn ahead of their title rematch. Sami stated that he would leave Chicago still holding the championship. Cody wished Sami luck and said he believed he would leave as champion.
- Gunther then ambushed Cody, driving him through a table with a powerbomb. Gunther declared that he was coming for Sami before slamming a car door into Cody’s head with a vicious kick. Officials swarmed in as Cody started bleeding from his ears.
- As announced, Seth Rollins kicked off the show and was welcomed by “CM PUNK” chants in Chicago. Rollins made it clear that his business is not Punk, but Roman Reigns, who is not here in Chicago. Seth complained about Roman being the chosen one, regardless of whether he could cut a promo or wrestle. Rollins also complained about how it never sat right with him that Roman could work far less while earning far more.
- LA Knight interrupted, accusing Seth of using a “cheat code” by talking about their history and greatness just to earn a championship opportunity, adding that there was once a time when one had to win matches to receive title shots. Knight claimed Roman and Seth were working together so Seth could get another chance at the championship.
- He also pointed out that, just as his own career had begun to take off a few years earlier, both The Bloodline and Seth Rollins had stood in his way. Knight accused Seth of manipulating the system to keep stars like him from breaking through.
- Seth responded that, while he did not particularly like LA Knight, he respected him because of his work ethic. However, he said his focus had to remain on reclaiming the championship. Seth promised to give Knight a title shot once he regains the throne. Jimmy Uso attacked LA Knight after Seth left.
- Backstage, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis joined GM Adam Pearce as they kicked Gunther out of the building, who yelled out that Aldis was not only a failure as a wrestler, but also as a general manager. Pearce asked why Aldis was there despite being on administrative leave, and Nick accused him of poaching his main event.
- Adam responded that the business was bigger than their personal issues. Aldis then criticized Pearce for allowing Cody Rhodes to be attacked.
- Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviewed the Vision when Paul Heyman arrived, asking Breakker not to worry about the spear through the barricade, but pointed out that Bron was unable to take out Seth Rollins, and then blasted Austin Theory, who was unable to take out Joe Hendry. Heyman added that if they can’t return with something worthy, they shouldn’t come back to him at all.
- The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) (c) vs The Vision (Bron Breakker & Austin Theory) – WWE World Tag Team titles match: Theory pinned Dawkins to regain the World Tag Team titles after Maxxine Dupri interfered in the match and low-blowed Dawkins. After the match, Dupri leaped into Theory’s arms and kissed him, signalling the alliance with the faction and Theory.
- Backstage, Cody Rhodes was examined by a medic. The medic refused to medically clear Cody for the title rematch based solely on the initial examination, prompting Adam Pearce to send him for further scans.
- Backstage, The Vision runs into Paul Heyman, who said it’s a first step, but it’s only a first step. He then added that he’s being too harsh, noting at least someone accomplished something. Theory thanked him, but Heyman clarified that he was talking to Dupri. Heyman left as the Vision got into a car and left the arena. The camera panned to show Otis and Akira Tozawa, looking sad at Dupri’s new alliance.
- Backstage, Liv Morgan gave Raquel Rodriguez a pep talk ahead of her title match, and Rodriguez cut a promo on how she would beat Sol Ruca to capture the Women’s Intercontinental.
- Sol Ruca (c) vs Raquel Rodriguez – Women’s Intercontinental title match: Ruca defeated Rodriguez to retain the title in her second defense. Roxanne Perez and Liv Morgan interfered in the match to help Raquel, but Iyo Sky arrived to even the odds.
- Paul Heyman addressed Oba Femi, claiming that the low blow Brock Lesnar had delivered was insignificant compared to the punishment Oba would endure inside Hell in a Cell. He warned that accepting Lesnar’s challenge had been the biggest mistake of Oba’s career. Oba came out to confront Heyman, who listed Lesnar’s many accomplishments and argued that Oba was far from unbeatable.
- Oba responded that his earlier comments had clearly gotten under Lesnar’s skin, noting that Lesnar’s appearance showed he had been paying attention to the show. Oba concluded by declaring that their upcoming clash at SummerSlam would mark the final chapter of Lesnar’s career.
- Backstage, Jackie Redmond informed Sami Zayn that Cody Rhodes had not been medically cleared to compete. Try to hold back the smile, Sami said it was unfortunate because he had been looking forward to testing himself against Cody and talked about figuring things out on Friday. GM Adam Pearce then informed Sami that, despite Cody’s absence, he would still defend the title in the main event.
- Dragon Lee & Chad Gable vs Ethan Page & Rusev – Tag Team match: Rusev & Ethan Page defeated Dragon Lee & Chad Gable, courtesy of the accolade by Rusev on Lee. Post-match, Rusev and Page continued the attack as Joe Hendry rushed in to make the save. The numbers game caught up to Hendry as Rusev locked in the accolade, and officials rushed in to diffuse the situation.
- Backstage, LA Knight tried to confront Jimmy Uso but was taken out by LA Knight. On the other hand, Bayley reacted to Lyra Valkyria’s betrayal in a vignette and challenged Lyra to meet her face-to-face next week.
- Backstage, Nick Aldis approached Adam Pearce. Pearce once again confronted him about still being on administrative leave, but Aldis revealed that while Pearce had been making calls without success, he had already secured a challenger for Sami Zayn. Aldis added that the opponent was already in the building before sarcastically telling Pearce, “You’re welcome.”
- A video promo aired featuring JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio addressing Danhausen ahead of McDonagh’s match against him at Saturday Night’s Main Event. McDonagh vowed to end Danhausen’s Cinderella story and send him back to where he believed he belonged. Dominik told Danhausen that all of his problems would disappear if he simply returned the money and lifted the curse on JD.
- Sami Zayn (c) vs CM Punk – Undisputed title match: CM Punk was revealed as Sami Zayn’s opponent as the Second City Saint returned for the first time since April in his hometown of Chicago. In his return, Punk was able to weather the storm to deliver a Helluva Kick followed by GTS to pin Sami and capture the Undisputed title ahead of SummerSlam.
