Drew McIntyre once again gets the better of Sami Zayn.
Drew McIntyre walked into WWE Royal Rumble 2026 with everything to lose and walked out still Undisputed WWE Champion after surviving a grueling, emotionally charged title defense against Sami Zayn. Zayn pushed the champion to his limits, but McIntyre’s brutality and refusal to show mercy ultimately proved decisive.
The match began at a frantic pace, with Drew McIntyre using his size advantage to rush Zayn into the corner. Zayn answered with chops and quick strikes, refusing to be bullied. Early exchanges stayed technical, but the intensity escalated when Zayn sent McIntyre to the floor and followed with a tope con giro, igniting the crowd.
Momentum shifted as McIntyre punished Sami Zayn around the ring, ramming him into the apron and hammering his lower back. Inside the ring, the champion’s offense grew methodical, backbreakers, hard whips, and clubbing blows designed to wear Zayn down.
Zayn fought back with bursts of speed and resilience. A diving axhandle, a sunset flip powerbomb, and a Blue Thunder Driver all brought near falls. Each time, McIntyre kicked out, growing more frustrated. Zayn nearly stole the match with a crucifix pin after evading a Claymore, but it wasn’t enough.
The turning point came high above the ring. McIntyre cut Zayn off on the ropes and delivered an avalanche White Noise that shook the arena. Multiple Future Shocks followed, yet Zayn refused to stay down, blocking a Corner Exploder and continuing to fight.
Drew McIntyre sends a brutal message
Drew McIntyre unleashed a barrage of lariats and finally connected with a Claymore, only for Zayn to get his foot on the rope. The champion argued with referee Charles Robinson, allowing Zayn to land a desperate Helluva Kick. Even then, McIntyre powered through.
Outside the ring, the match took a brutal turn. Zayn chased McIntyre, but his injured back failed him. McIntyre seized the moment, powerbombing Zayn through the announce desk as officials rushed to check on the challenger.
Back in the ring, McIntyre showed no compassion. He slapped Zayn, jawed at him, and demanded he stay down. Zayn answered with a Corner Exploder, but as he charged again, McIntyre cut him off with a second, definitive Claymore.
