Speculations and rumors are among some of the favorite pastimes for WWE fans worldwide. Fans from all over the world enjoy discussing and debating various aspects of the world of pro wrestling. The road to WrestleMania began with the Royal Rumble PLE and was followed by Elimination Chamber. Fans have started speculating about the matches and appearances.
In today’s edition of the rumor roundup, we cover the latest rumors and news circulating among fans on social media, including the Lucha community in Mexico upset with El Grande Americano, Rusev’s return, Evolution PLE, and more.
Lucha community in Mexico upset with El Grande Americano
Since early March, WWE had been teasing the debut of a new masked luchador, seemingly portrayed by Chad Gable, who has denied his involvement. The masked luchador officially made his debut on this week’s Monday Night Raw under the name El Grande Americano, accompanied by a promo hyping up his arrival.
Americano defeated Dragon Lee in a singles match in his debut as he ripped off Lee’s masked and capitalized by locking in the Ankle lock.
WrestleVotes now reports that the Lucha community in Mexico is “pissed off” about Gable’s portrayal of El Grande Americano in the promotion, particularly the Raw segment where he pulled off Dragon Lee’s mask. The entire angle is being seen as “mocking their religion.”
Rusev & Saraya’s WWE return
Miro better known by Rusev among WWE fans was released by AEW (All Elite Wrestling) recently. Since his release, there has been a lot of speculation of him joining the Stamford-based promotion given his past with the company.
According to a recent report from WrestleVotes, the promotion has had internal discussions about his potential return, but nothing is currently in motion.
“We are told there is interest within WWE to bring back Miro, aka the former Rusev. One source stated that while WWE has discussed creative ideas, nothing is imminent. The expectation is that a deal could potentially be reached toward the end of the calendar year.”
Furthermore, Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer suspects Saraya is “going back to WWE.” Saraya better known among WWE fans as Paige recently revealed that she has left AEW and is a free agent.
Additionally, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp mentions he spoke to several people who were “surprised” by Saraya announcing her AEW exit with “a number of months [left] on her deal.” However, Saraya’s management team asserts that she is currently a free agent.
Paige has also recently discussed the possibility of a return to the WWE during an appearance on the Hall of Fame podcast. She also expressed gratitude for the platform the promotion provided during her early days and stated that she would be open for ‘an opportunity to do something fun.’
“Yeah, so I love WWE, and I don’t have any negative feelings towards them. They raised me, they saved me a lot. I just appreciate them so much. The idea of going somewhere else was only because the potential of my brother being there was a big thing. I just wanted him to be a success in wrestling.
But I love WWE, and I would absolutely, if there was something that they needed from me, which was exciting, I would definitely go there, yeah. That would be silly not to, I feel like. So yeah, if there’s an opportunity to do something fun, hell yeah, I’ll jump on board.” Saraya said.
Evolution PLE
According to a report from WrestleVotes, the Stamford-based promotion is bringing back the all-women’s Evolution PLE this summer. The report also adds that an official announcement is expected to be made before WrestleMania 41 PLE.
WWE Evolution was an all-women’s pay-per-view event held on October 28, 2018, at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York.
The new voice of SmackDown & Josh Matthews at AEW
ESPN boxing ring announcer Mark Shunock will be making his WWE debut as the new voice of Friday Night SmackDown! Now going by Mark Nash, he’ll take over ring announcing duties starting tonight in London. Nash will be replacing Lillian Garcia who recently stepped down from her in-ring duties following the SmackDown in Barcelona.
PWInsider reports that former WWE and TNA announcer Josh Matthews was backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite taping. It’s unclear whether he was “there visiting or is potentially coming in.”
