WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event is making a comeback
WWE is reviving its iconic series Saturday Night’s Main Event which last aired in 2008. The show will return on December 14 with a special broadcast airing simultaneously on NBC and Peacock at 8 p.m. ET.
The show will be telecasted from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, New York. The promotion has planned a retro theme for the revived show.
History of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Premiering in 1985, SNME was a staple WWE TV special that aired until 1992. During its 31-episode run, Hulk Hogan was a dominant force, helping WWE experience its first major surge in popularity and delivering unforgettable moments typically reserved for the biggest pay-per-view events.
SNME made a brief comeback in 2006 as a series of prime-time specials on NBC, as part of the promotion’s deal with NBC Universal to broadcast Raw on USA Network. The revived series consisted of five episodes before being canceled in 2008.
As part of a deal to relocate Friday Night SmackDown from Fox to USA, the promotion revived its classic series SNME on NBC with its first show slated for next week.
The last Saturday Night’s Main Event took place on July 28, 2008, at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., with Edge facing off against Jeff Hardy in the main event.
SNME 2024 Match Card
As of now, three title matches have been announced by the Stamford-based promotion for the SNME card next week in Long Island.
Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes will defend his title against a former friend turned foe, Kevin Owens, in a grudge match at the event. Gunther will defend his World Heavyweight Title against Finn Balor, the champion is coming off a fresh title defense against Damian Priest at Survivor Series 2024 PLE.
Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan is also scheduled to defend her title against #1 contender Iyo Sky. The event will also feature the finals to crown the inaugural Women’s United States Champion.
SNME telecast details & runtime
Despite the Stamford-based promotion’s plans to present a PLE caliber card for the fans in Long Island, SNME’s run time would be shorter than major WWE shows.
According to reports from PWInsider, SNME will air for two hours from 8 pm ET until 10 pm ET. The event will take place every quarter, meaning another is on the way in January.
Fans can relive the excitement of the historic event by streaming past episodes on Peacock. Furthermore, the promotion has recently confirmed that SNME will stream on YouTube in the United Kingdom.
The second edition of SNME
The Stamford-based promotion announced its plans for the second edition of SNME ahead of the highly anticipated return of the SNME next week in Long Island, New York.
The promotion announced via a press release that the second edition of SNME will take place on Saturday, January 25 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. The event will be just one week before the 2025 Royal Rumble which is scheduled for February 1st in Indianapolis.
General tickets for Saturday Night’s Main Event will go on sale Friday, December 13 at 10 a.m. via FrostBankCenter.com or Ticketmaster.com. Pre-sale for the event will start on Wednesday, December 11 at 11 am ET/10 am CT.
However, the promotion has not provided any update regarding the matches or segments that are planned for the second edition in Texas.
Multiple WWE legends are in discussion for an appearance at SNME 2024
According to a recent WrestleVotes Radio episode, the promotion is considering a nostalgic tribute to the inaugural episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which originally aired nearly 40 years ago at the same Long Island, New York arena.
Multiple legends are in discussion for an appearance including the uber-popular Hulk Hogan, former Women’s Champion Wendi Richter, and Cowboy Bob Orton, Hogan’s opponent from the first Saturday Night’s Main Event.
