Drew McIntyre’s title misery continues.
The Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event lived up to every bit of its hype.
With no champion’s advantage in play, the title could change hands on a countout or disqualification and both men made sure to test those limits in a dramatic, hard-hitting encounter.
From the opening bell, Cody charged at McIntyre with full intensity, only for the Scottish Warrior to coolly sidestep him and assert early control.
The early exchange saw both men trade chops, reversals, and punishing strikes, with Rhodes landing a sharp Gourdbuster to gain momentum. McIntyre tried to lure Cody to the floor, but The American Nightmare refused to take the bait, showing the ring awareness of a true champion.
Cody Rhodes survives Drew McIntyre’s brutal onslaught
Drew McIntyre’s aggression soon became the story of the match. He threw Cody Rhodes shoulder-first into the post, sent him crashing into the barricade, and suplexed him halfway across the ring.
A Kneeling Cobra Twist nearly drained the life out of Rhodes, but the champion fought back with quick strikes and a superplex from the top rope that shook the arena.
Cody followed up with a Cody Cutter for a nearfall and then unleashed the Flip, Flop, & Fly, topped off by a Bionic Elbow, a tribute to his father, Dusty Rhodes. But McIntyre would not be denied, countering with a Liger Bomb and nearly stealing the win.
When Drew brought the championship belt into the ring, chaos followed. Cody handed the belt to the referee, but McIntyre struck with a devastating Claymore Kick. Somehow, Rhodes kicked out just in time, keeping his dream alive.
A controversial finish seals the night
The closing stretch was pure drama. Both men traded desperate counters, with Drew McIntyre blocking the Cross Rhodes and accidentally colliding with referee Dan Engler.
As the official went down, Drew picked up the title belt, but Cody recovered just in time to DDT him face-first onto it. The champion tossed the evidence out of the ring before Engler regained his footing, hit Cross Rhodes, and scored the decisive pinfall.
Winner: Cody Rhodes via pinfall
