Goldberg faced Gunther in his retirement match

The energy inside the arena was electric for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event as Goldberg made his final walk to the ring. Surrounded by familiar faces backstage. He paused to soak in every second. The moment felt big, and WWE made sure of it. With Lilian Garcia on hand for the in-ring introductions and the crowd roaring with “GOLDBERG” chants, the atmosphere was fitting for a heavyweight clash between eras.

The bell rang, and instead of the usual spear-out-the-gate sprint, Goldberg played it slow. The two locked up in a classic collar-and-elbow tie-up, with Goldberg tossing Gunther like a man half his age. Loud chops followed from Gunther, but Goldberg absorbed them and laughed, vintage stuff from the Hall of Famer.

Gunther gains momentum

Goldberg started strong, tossing Gunther and even threatening a spear, but the champion played smart. He slipped out of the ring to regroup. On the outside, Goldberg remained dominant, until he missed a spear and crashed through the barricade, shifting the match’s momentum for good.

Back from commercial, the veteran tried to mount a comeback. Limping from a clearly injured knee, he still launched a flurry of offense, capped with a massive spear. Just when it seemed like he had the match won, the referee took a bump.

Gunther exploits Goldberg’s weakness

With the official down, the Ring General went after the knee, ripping off Goldberg’s brace and targeting the injury like a predator sensing blood. In a jaw-dropping moment, Ring General shoved Goldberg’s son, Gage, at the ringside, prompting chaos and an attempted run-in before security intervened.

Still, Goldberg had one more moment in him. He landed a devastating spear, then somehow pulled off a Jackhammer, but couldn’t cover in time. A second referee arrived, but Gunther kicked out. That was Goldberg’s last shot.

With the legend barely able to stand, Ring General clinched in a sleeper hold. Goldberg tried to fight it, even rolling to his feet. But the damage was done. Slowly, he faded out, and the referee called for the bell. Ring General retains the World Heavyweight Championship via submission.
