Penta survives brutal challenge from Ethan Page to retain Intercontinental Championship
Penta escaped WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event with the WWE Men’s Intercontinental Championship still around his waist, but Ethan Page pushed the champion to his absolute limit in a thrilling title clash filled with near falls, heavy strikes, and high-risk offense.
“All Ego” came into the contest determined to score the biggest victory of his WWE career, and for long stretches, it looked like he was on the verge of dethroning the champion. In the end, however, Penta once again proved why he remains one of WWE’s toughest champions to put away.
The opening minutes saw both men carefully feeling each other out before the pace exploded into chaos. Penta used his speed advantage early, connecting with tijeras, a lariat, and a quebradora before Ethan Page cut him down mid-air with a perfectly timed dropkick.
Ethan Page pushes Penta to the limit in a physical title match
Page quickly shifted momentum with grounded punches and relentless offense, slowing the champion down whenever Penta attempted to build rhythm. The challenger even launched Penta over the announce desk with a vicious back body drop before realizing a count-out victory would not win him the championship.
That desperation only intensified Page’s aggression. He repeatedly drove Penta into the ring post, hammered him with punches, and controlled the pace with heavy strikes and a grinding reverse chinlock.
Penta eventually fought free and fired back with a Sling Blade, enzuigiri, and a spectacular handstand double stomp that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Moments later, the champion launched himself through the ropes with a breathtaking tope con giro before nearly scoring the victory with a springboard DDT.
Page refused to stay down. The challenger answered with a Codebreaker, a massive slam, and an avalanche powerslam from the top rope, but Penta somehow continued kicking out to the disbelief of the crowd.
Penta capitalizes on Ethan Page’s mistake to retain the title
As frustration mounted, Ethan Page turned to underhanded tactics. He repeatedly tore the turnbuckle padding off the corner while referee Eddie Orengo tried restoring order inside the ring.
Page eventually succeeded in slamming Penta into the exposed turnbuckle and looked moments away from becoming champion. Somehow, the masked star still managed to survive the cover attempt.
That missed opportunity proved costly. In the closing moments, Penta reversed the momentum and sent Page crashing into the exposed turnbuckle instead. With the challenger stunned, the champion capitalized with a devastating Mexican Destroyer to secure the pinfall victory.
The hard-fought win allowed Penta to retain the WWE Men’s Intercontinental Championship after one of the most physical matches of the night.
