Bronson Reed returns, Damain Priest stands tall, Zelina Vega retains & more!

The first event following WWE Backlash 2025 was the May 24 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which emanated live from the Yeungling Center in Tampa, Florida. This was the second edition of SNME in 2025 and the third one overall since its return in 2024.

WWE brought the third edition of the vintage show, Saturday Night’s Main Event, which featured multiple matches where top superstars, including John Cena, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Jey Uso, among others, competed.

The show also featured two title clashes, including the World Heavyweight title and the Women’s United States title. Get to know what happened this Friday, as we have the complete summary, highlights, results, and winners’ list for the May 2025 edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Summary and Highlights

CM Punk & Sami Zayn vs Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker

In the first match of the show, the team of CM Punk and Sami Zayn battled Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, who were accompanied by ‘The Wiseman’ Paul Heyman. The animosity took centre stage the four started brawling even before the match started.

As predicted by us at Khel Now, Rollins had something big up his sleeve as Bronson Reed made his return, taking out Punk through the barricade while Breakker sealed the victory in the ring with a vicious spear on Zayn.

After the match, Bronson Reed stepped into the ring and came face to face with Breakker. However, Rollins stepped forward and embraced him, and Reed proceeded to shake Breakker’s hand as the three men celebrated inside the ring. Punk tried to get to Heyman, but the numbers game proved too much. Bronson landed the Tsunami on Punk while Rollins and Breakker held him down.

Zelina Vega (c) vs Chelsea Green – Women’s United States title match

In the second match of the show, Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega defended the title against Chelsea Green. The challenger was looking to continue his undefeated reign against the Challenger who was trying to recapture the throne.

The Secret Hervice (Piper Niven & Alba Fyre) were ringside for the match and even tried to interfere but failed to do so as Vega, after landing the 619, landed the super code red from the top rope to pick up the win and retain the title.

Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena vs R-Truth – non-title match

In an attempt to bring John Cena back to his senses, R-Truth battled the Undisputed Champion in a non-title match. Truth even came out on Cena’s theme song, wearing his ring attire. The match began with Cena taking control, landing the five knuckle shuffle, and a failed Attitude Adjustment attempt.

However, Truth turned the tide as ‘uno-reversed’ the Champion, landing the five knuckle shuffle followed by the AA. Truth locked in the STF as Cena kicked out of AA, but Cena rolled out of the ring and brought the title with him for a familiar sight from his last two title defenses.

For a moment, it seemed like we were witnessing a face turn from Cena as he paused and looked at Truth, appearing to have a change of heart. But that moment quickly faded, while Truth was celebrating with the crowd, Cena handed the title to the referee, then delivered a low blow to secure the win. To put the icing on the cake, he struck Truth with the title after the match.

Backstage

World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso was backstage when he ran into Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena, who remarked that it had been a long time since they last saw each other. Jey reminded him that the last time they crossed paths, he had thrown Cena out of the ring at the Royal Rumble.

Cena then commented that it would be something if Jey lost the title to Logan Paul that night. He went on to share a hypothetical scenario, suggesting that the best way to ruin wrestling might be by taking the Undisputed title with him, while the World Heavyweight Championship ends up around the waist of a “YouTuber.”

Before leaving, Cena played some mind games with Jey, warning him that he would be watching Jey defend the title in the main event very closely.

Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest – Steel Cage match

In one of the most highly anticipated matches, two fierce rivals, Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest, locked horns inside a steel cage. Similar to the first match, this one too began to unravel before the bell even rang as McIntyre attacked Priest on the steel steps and brought steel chairs in to start the match.

McIntyre was looking to repeat the same success from WrestleMania, as he failed to secure the win by just a Claymore. Drew put Priest’s head in front of the steel chair, which was jammed into the ring post. However, Priest ducked the attempt to land his own offense, battering Drew with the steel chair and ramming him throat-first on the mat with the steel chair on his neck.

Priest landed the final blow as he put McIntyre’s head onto a steel chair and grabbed another one to land the Con-Chair-to. However, he didn’t go for the pin instead walked out of the cage on the concrete floor, effectively winning the match.

Jey Uso (c) vs Logan Paul – World Heavyweight Championship match

As announced, World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso defended his throne in the main event against Logan Paul, who was looking to capture his first World title. Paul, who is known for his high-flying moves, showcased them against the Champion but was unable to secure the win as Jey landed the superkick, followed by the Uso splash.

However, before the referee could count to three, John Cena appeared, pulling the referee out of the ring as he started battering Jey. This was just the beginning as Cody Rhodes then made his return since losing to Cena at WrestleMania.

Rhodes darted into the ring to settle the score with Cena and took him out with the cross Rhodes. Logan came in with the brass knuckles and tried to attack Cody, but ate a spear from Jey, followed by the Uso splash as Jey retained the title in the main event.

After the match, Cody picked up a mic and stepped in the ring, declaring that Cena had done enough damage to wrestling, and now he’s back. Rhodes said it looked like Cena had found himself a partner in Logan Paul, while he had his own in his brother, the World Heavyweight Champion. He then announced that the two teams would face off in a tag team match at Money in the Bank.
