WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Summary and Highlights
Cody Rhodes (c) vs Drew McIntyre – Undisputed WWE Championship match

In the first match of the show, Cody Rhodes battled Drew McIntyre with the Undisputed title on the line. No champion’s advantage in play for this rematch, as both men, with no concern for their well-being being started battering each other.
However, it all came crashing down when McIntyre accidentally collided with referee Dan Engler. Drew tried to capitalize as he picked up the title belt, but Cody recovered in time to DDT him face-first onto the title. The champion tossed the evidence out of the ring before Engler regained his footing, hitting Cross Rhodes, to pin McIntyre and retain the title.
Winner & Still: Cody Rhodes
Grade: C
Match Insights & Moments:
- Pretty underwhelming match featuring two of the biggest names, who have delivered way better matches.
- The lack of stars on SmackDown is another problem moving forward for the title picture.
Tiffany Stratton (c) vs Jade Cargill – WWE Women’s Championship match
Despite the knee injury, Tiffany Stratton was ready to defend the title against Jade Cargill and get some payback. Stratton entered the match with a heavily taped-up knee, and Cargill capitalized well on it. The match soon became a one-sided beatdown by Cargill, who, despite eating a Swanton from Tiffany, never looked in any trouble.
Cargill finished the beatdown by delivering Jaded to pin Stratton and become the new WWE Women’s Champion, her first singles title in WWE.
Winner & New: Jade Cargill
Grade: C
Match Insights & Moments:
- GM Nick Aldis met with Stratton before the match to ensure she was in the right mindset for her match against Cargill. Stratton assured him that she was ready.
- Stratton’s dominant title reign has come to an end at 302 days, while Cargill captured her first singles title in WWE.
- The match was largely one-sided, designed to further establish Cargill as an unstoppable force.
Dominik Mysterio (c) vs Rusev vs Penta – Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship
Dominik Mysterio took on Penta and Rusev in a triple threat match with the Intercontinental title on the line. Rusev took control early, wreaking havoc and punishing both Msyterio and Penta. Rusev even picked up the IC title ringside and states that he’s coming for him.
Mysterio attempted his signature fake steel chair trick, handing the chair to Rusev to fool the referee, only for the official to remind him that it was a Triple Threat match, and therefore, there were no disqualifications. Rusev attacked him with the chair and then intercepted Penta mid-air with a Machka Kick to lock in the accolade.
The bell rang as Rusev believed he had captured the title, only to realize that it was Mysterio who had rung it. Mysterio brought in the bell hammer as Penta caught hold of it and tried to use it on Mysterio, who ducked, causing Penta to strike Rusev. Mysterio took out Penta and delivered the frog splash on Rusev to retain the title.
Winner & Still: Dominik Mysterio
Grade: B-
Match Insights & Moments:
- Dominik has more title wins than anyone in WWE this year, as per Michael Cole.
- The triple-threat match marked the 16th occasion that the championship had been defended at the event.
- Mysterio retaining was the right decision, as he’s currently one of the crowd’s favorites and is on his way to becoming the face of the company.
John Cena addresses the subject of his final opponent

WWE aired a sneak peek of John Cena’s interview, where the 17-time World Champion reflected on his decision to hang up his wrestling boots.

Cena added that the tournament would include competitors he had a history with, as well as others he had never faced before.
CM Punk vs Jey Uso – Vacant World Heavyweight Championship match

In the main event of the show, CM Punk and Jey Uso battled for the Vacant World Heavyweight Championship. The match started slowly, but picked up pace as Punk took over, even delivering a GTS, but Jey collapsed out of the ring.
Jey slowly fought his way back into the match, delivering a Superkick, Spear, and the Uso Splash for a dramatic near-fall. The back and forth continued with both stars utilizing each other’s finishing moves to try to win the match.
In the final moments of the match, Punk delivered a GTS, but Jey intercepted the second one to lock in the sleeper hold, but Punk countered into Anaconda Vise. Jey survived the choke and delivered a Superkick. Punk intercepted the second one to deliver two back-to-back GTS to pin Jey and capture the World Heavyweight Championship.
Winner & New: CM Punk
Grade: B
