SmackDown show feels very stale in WWE today.
WWE SmackDown has been one of the most captivating shows since its inception in 1999. The blue brand, named after The Rock’s popular catchphrase, has always had a star-studded roster throughout the years.
Even today, it has top-tier attractions like Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Charlotte Flair, Sami Zayn, Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green, Kevin Owens, and more. Yet, there is a feeling that the show has become average in recent memory.
But the recent episode of Friday Night Showdown failed to live up to expectations despite a number of future Hall of Famers being part of it. General manager Nick Aldis regularly put forward new matches, impromptu matches, and even mega title fixtures on the night. But the results are still underwhelming.

Why does WWE SmackDown feel average?

There is no question about WWE SmackDown’s star-studded roster today. Despite that, several factors are holding the blue brand back from reaching its true potential.
One of them is rehashing storylines that have been going on for a long time. One of the best examples is the feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, which was prevalent before WrestleMania 42.
Instead, WWE should shuffle its roster to create short-term yet captivating storylines that help stars reach the next level.
WWE has failed to experiment with World title feuds with upcoming WWE talent for a long time. Another has been the inclusion of many in-ring segments rather than action inside the squared circle. As a result, many stars haven’t been able to showcase their true potential as in-ring competitors.
Furthermore, SmackDown has a stacked roster for both the men’s and women’s divisions. Yet, many stars are sitting on the bench with no creative plans in place for them. The latest is Jordynne Grace, who was brought into WWE as a top prospect and has been off TV for a long time.
Similarly, top names like Drew McIntyre and The Miz have been missing for months. Injuries to major names like Rhea Ripley have also affected the show’s quality. Former champion Gunther moved to the blue brand of the company and has yet to make any mark on the landscape.
As the year comes to an end, it will be interesting to see whether SmackDown makes a drastic shake-up and becomes a prominent show to tune in to.
