Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton set for a face-to-face confrontation

(Photo by Bradlee Rutledge/WWE via Getty Images)One of the biggest attractions of the October 16 show will be the meeting between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. Their rivalry has intensified in recent weeks, with Rhodes demanding that SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis arrange a face-to-face meeting with the former WWE Champion.
Rhodes made his intentions clear during the October 9 episode, delivering a heated promo and insisting that he wanted to confront Orton directly. Aldis subsequently confirmed that the two would meet on the following week’s show.
The history between the two former allies adds further intrigue to the segment. Orton helped mentor Rhodes early in his WWE career, but their relationship has deteriorated as their ambitions have clashed. The American Nightmare is now determined to settle matters, while Orton’s unpredictable nature makes any confrontation potentially explosive.
The segment could provide a clearer picture of WWE’s plans for the rivalry heading towards Crown Jewel. A heated exchange or physical altercation would be a natural possibility, although WWE has not announced a match between the two for October 16.
Nikki Bella vs Paige
(Courtesy: WWE.com)Nikki Bella and Paige will meet again as their rivalry continues to develop on SmackDown. While Bella has her sights set on a championship opportunity, Paige is determined to settle their personal differences inside the ring.
The two previously faced each other on September 11, with Nikki emerging victorious. Their issues continued in the following weeks, including an encounter on October 2 that saw Nikki make her championship ambitions clear. Paige, however, wanted to resolve their ongoing conflict first, challenging Bella to another match.
The rematch gives Paige an opportunity to avenge her earlier defeat, while another victory would strengthen Nikki’s position as she pursues championship gold. Both women have extensive experience on WWE’s biggest stages, and their contrasting motivations could make this a compelling contest.
R-Truth vs Damian Priest
FORT WORTH, TEXAS – APRIL 24: WWE Tag Team Champions R-Truth and Damian Priest celebrate their win during SmackDown at Dickies Arena on April 24, 2026 in Fort Worth, Texas. (Photo by Michael Marques/WWE via Getty Images)R-Truth will take on Damian Priest in a match driven by the breakdown of their former partnership. Priest turned on Truth during WWE’s September visit to Mexico City, accusing his former partner of holding him back. Their relationship has since deteriorated, setting up their singles encounter in Sacramento.
Priest has been attempting to re-establish himself as a serious singles competitor, and his treatment of Truth suggests he is prepared to leave his previous persona behind. His physical advantages and aggressive approach could make him a dangerous opponent.
Truth, however, should not be underestimated. Behind his comedic personality is a veteran performer with championship experience and the ability to surprise opponents when it matters most.
The rivalry became more heated on the October 9 episode, when Truth’s backstage actions and Priest’s continued hostility added to the tension. Their match now offers both men an opportunity to settle matters directly.
Money in the Bank fallout and other stars to watch
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – OCTOBER 10: Tiffany Stratton celebrates her win during Money in the Bank at First Horizon Center on October 10, 2026 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Rich Freeda/WWE via Getty Images)This October 16 show will also be preceded by a notable Money in the Bank weekend, where Penta won the men’s ladder match, and Tiffany Stratton won the women’s one, earning both contracts to contend for the titles in the future. Meanwhile, Liv Morgan recently won the Women’s World Championship in another major event for WWE women.
The advertised names include Tiffany Stratton, who can make an appearance after recently becoming Ms. Money in the Bank, but it is unclear whether WWE has plans for this particular name.
Another wrestler included in the list is Jade Cargill, whose involvement in events that led to the win of Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley in the Women’s Tag Team Championship may give rise to some storyline.
Also featured on the card are CM Punk, Gunther, and Trick Williams. While their appearance may be used to push their storylines forward, it is important to separate the confirmed event and the possible segments.
