WWE SmackDown (May 29, 2026): Axiom vs The Miz; Clash in Italy build & more set for next week in Barcelona

The SNME go-home show concluded in Kentucky.
The May 22 edition of SmackDown served as the final episode before Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 23 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The show also continued the build towards Clash in Italy, announcing a new title match as Rhea Ripley will defend the WWE Women’s title against Jade Cargill.
Live from Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, the show featured the SmackDown debut of Blake Monroe, while tensions between Royce Keys and Solo Sikoa’s MFT continued.
The show also featured two title matches. Tiffany Stratton retained the Women’s US title against Lash Legend after help from Chelsea Green, while Trick Williams retained the US title over Carmelo Hayes, due to interference from Ricky Saints.
In the main event of the show, Cody Rhodes defeated Sami Zayn, but was ambushed by Gunther after the match. Zayn refused to help Cody as Gunther locked in the sleeper and then flaunted the title ahead of their showdown at the PLE.
The Europe tour begins next week with SmackDown
During the May 22 show, Fraxiom (Axiom & Nathan Frazer) interrupted The Miz and Kit Wilson, who were being interviewed by Cathy Kelley backstage.
Axiom questioned Miz about why things had been going poorly for him recently and suggested that the curse (courtesy of Danhausen) might actually be real. Feeling disrespected by Fraxiom, The Miz challenged Axiom to a match next week in Barcelona, and Axiom accepted, making the match official.
Speaking of next week, with Clash in Italy on the horizon, WWE will deliver the go-home edition next week. The May 29 edition of Friday Night SmackDown will emanate live from the Olimpic Arena in Badalona, Barcelona, Spain.
Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Randy Orton, Jade Cargill, Drew McIntyre, and Tiffany Stratton are listed as featured superstars for the show.
