Much backstage drama on the night before Money in the Bank 2026.
WWE SmackDown returns this Friday with its final episode before Money in the Bank 2026, making the October 9 edition an important stop on the road to the Premium Live Event.
The show will feature championship action, the return of CM Punk, and appearances from every superstar involved in the men’s and women’s Money in the Bank Ladder matches.
The October 9 episode will emanate live from the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, just one night before Money in the Bank takes place in New Orleans.
Ahead of this Friday’s show, let us now take a look at the full and detailed preview for WWE SmackDown, including the match card, timings, and telecast details.
Announced for WWE SmackDown (October 9, 2026)
- CM Punk returns
- WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) (c) vs Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley
- [Dark match] Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa & LA Knight vs 946 (Royce Keys, Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) – Six-man Tag Team match
- CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill & Gunther are listed as featured superstars
CM Punk returns to SmackDown

One of the biggest attractions of the show will be the return of CM Punk. The Second City Saint may not be the favorite to win the Money in the Bank 2026 PLE, as per the odds, but he has made it clear he’s coming back with a vengeance.
Punk secured his place in the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match after defeating Gunther and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat qualifier. He will now appear on SmackDown for the final time before the October 10 PLE.
While WWE has not announced a match for Punk, his appearance could have major implications for the Money in the Bank contest. The field also includes Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, Penta and Kevin Owens, setting up an unpredictable ladder match in New Orleans.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Fatal Influence (c) vs Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley
The only championship match currently announced for the broadcast will see Fatal Influence’s Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley.
The challengers received their opportunity after Charlotte and Tatum approached SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis during the October 2 episode. The duo previously faced Fatal Influence in September but came up short. They will now get another chance to capture the titles on a much bigger stage.
For Fatal Influence, the match is an opportunity to enter Money in the Bank weekend with momentum. For Charlotte and Tatum, meanwhile, it represents a chance to turn a previous defeat into championship success.
All Money in the Bank competitors to appear
With the Money in the Bank field now complete, WWE has confirmed that every competitor from both ladder matches will be present on SmackDown.
The men’s field consists of Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, Penta, CM Punk and Kevin Owens. On the women’s side, Sol Ruca, Lola Vice, Jacy Jayne, Roxanne Perez, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton will compete for the briefcase.
Having the entire field under one roof could result in confrontations before they meet in New Orleans. WWE could also use the final SmackDown to establish the final rivalries and momentum heading into the ladder matches.
WWE is also advertising a six-man dark match for next week’s SmackDown with Seth Rollins, LA Knight, and Solo Sikoa vs. 946’s Royce Keys, Bronco Nima, and Lucien Price. However, the Cajundome has 946 vs The Usos and Jacob Fatu advertised.
