WWE SmackDown Results & Summary
Sami Zayn opened the night
Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn addressed his upcoming clash with Roman Reigns, but Jimmy Uso interrupted him, leading to a heated confrontation rooted in their shared history. The two revisited key moments from their time together, making the exchange feel more like a personal argument than a scripted wrestling promo.
Jimmy accused Zayn of using The 946’s attack on The Bloodline to his advantage and declared that he was no longer family. Moments later, The 946 appeared and attacked Jimmy while Zayn watched from the apron without intervening.
Although Zayn appeared uncomfortable seeing his former ally being assaulted, he chose not to help. The segment effectively used their real history to add emotional depth and left fans with an unexpected closing image.
Grade: B+
Insights & Backstage Moments:
- In a backstage interview, Johnny Gargano backed Sami Zayn for his actions and even reiterated that the champion deserves some respect.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs Tama Tonga
Shinsuke Nakamura and Tama Tonga clashed in an intense singles match, immediately exchanging punches and kicks instead of beginning with traditional grappling. Neither competitor backed down, even as the referee attempted to restore order.
Talla Tonga interfered behind the official’s back, delivering a big boot to Nakamura before the show went to a commercial break. Despite having limited time, both wrestlers delivered an entertaining, fast-paced contest that furthered their ongoing rivalry. Tama had Talla and Haku supporting him at ringside, but their presence was not enough to secure the victory.
The former NXT Champion eventually overcame Tonga to pick up the win. Nakamura’s victory could also set the stage for a potential tag team championship rematch in the coming weeks.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
Grade: C+
Insights & Backstage Moments:
- In a backstage interview, CM Punk was angry about missing out on a title opportunity because of Kevin Owens and vowed to finish up the story.
Gunther spoke about ‘The Demon’
An angry Gunther opened the segment by addressing Finn Balor’s return as The Demon and his confrontation with Danhausen last Friday. The Ring General stood by his earlier criticism, claiming Balor’s career was hanging by a thread and challenging him to end it that night. Former WWE Champion then called out Finn, insisting that he once respected him and wanted to face him without the Demon makeup and theatrics.
Balor quickly appeared and, after a brief exchange, attempted to attack Gunther. He nearly delivered another Coup de Grace, but Gunther managed to stop him. Finn avoided a powerbomb and climbed back up, forcing Gunther to retreat outside the ring to escape his finisher.
The straightforward segment continued their developing rivalry, setting up further confrontations without significantly escalating the storyline just yet.
Grade: B-
The Baddies (c) vs Fatal Influence (Women’s tag team championship)
The Women’s Tag Team Championship was on the line this week as B-Fab and Michin defended their titles against former champions Fallon Henley and Jacy Jayne. However, the contest lasted only around three and a half minutes, leaving little room for either team to make a significant impact.
Despite their efforts to deliver an entertaining encounter, the short duration made the match feel reminiscent of the Divas era, which was hardly a positive comparison. Henley and Michin looked particularly impressive with their offensive sequences but were unable to showcase their abilities fully.
The match eventually ended prematurely when Paxley and Bliss attacked Jayne and Cargill from the crowd before entering the ring. Bayley and Charlotte Flair also joined the ensuing brawl.
While the chaotic closing moments provided some entertainment, the return of Flair and Bayley joining the faction clearly hinted at the direction the creative team wanted to go with the match.
Winner: No contest
Grade: B-
Insights & Backstage Moments:
- In a backstage interview, Kevin Owens said that CM Punk is not the future and he is almost the past and will send him back to the past.
- After the match, Charlotte Flair and Bayley celebrated the ‘small’ victory over Fatal Influence and Jade Cargill, with the ‘Queen’ hinting at a possible match at ‘Survivor Series WarGames’
Chelsea Green spoke about Crown Jewel
Chelsea Green joined GM Nick Aldis in the ring ahead of her WWE Women’s Championship showdown with Liv Morgan at Crown Jewel. Aldis acknowledged their past differences but expressed his respect for Green, praising her as the champion of what he considers the best women’s division in WWE history. Green admitted that she has struggled with self-doubt, with Morgan’s repeated insults making her question whether she truly belongs among the great champions.
She became emotional while discussing her insecurities, prompting Aldis to reassure her that she had earned her place and the crowd’s support. Green insisted that defeating Morgan at Crown Jewel would prove her championship victory was no fluke.
Morgan then interrupted, mocking Green for showing her vulnerable side and delivering a few more verbal jabs. Although the segment ended without a physical confrontation, it effectively highlighted Green’s emotional depth and connection with the audience, showing she is more than a comedy act.
Grade: B-
Insights & Backstage Moments:
- In a backstage interview, US Champion Trick Williams was upset about Damian Priest’s comments on his title challenge and indirectly challenged the former champion.
Damian Priest vs Nathan Frazer
Fraxiom’s support for R-Truth amid his fallout with Damian Priest led to Nathan Frazer facing Priest in a singles match this week. Frazer started aggressively, hitting a dive before Priest could even enter the ring. However, The Archer of Infamy quickly seized control with a powerful strike.
The contest lasted barely two minutes before the referee stopped it because Frazer could no longer continue. Priest further showcased his dominance by delivering a Razor’s Edge that sent Frazer over the announce table before driving Axiom into the ring post.
Winner: Damian Priest
Grade: B-
Kevin Owens vs CM Punk: No Holds Barred match
The main event featured CM Punk and Kevin Owens settling their rivalry in a brutal match. As expected, neither competitor wasted time with technical wrestling, immediately launching into a fight and introducing weapons within the opening minutes.
The action spilled throughout the arena, with both men using various weapons found beneath the ring while exchanging heated verbal jabs. Despite being unable to use blood, they found several ways to make the contest feel violent and entertaining. Punk even used a production cart to drive Owens headfirst into the LED apron.
Unlike the earlier matches, the main event received sufficient time to develop into an engaging encounter. Punk came close to securing victory on multiple occasions, but Owens ultimately prevailed after landing a massive punch with a chain wrapped around his fist. He then fell right back on Punk for the winning pinfall.
Winner: Kevin Owens
