WWE SmackDown Summary and Highlights
Cody Rhodes previews Crown Jewel

Cody Rhodes asked what the Perth crowd wanted to talk about before mentioning Seth Rollins, stating how he had poked fun at Seth, but after hearing Mr. Heyman describe the actual stakes of their match, he now thought maybe Seth was right. Rhodes stated Rollins was becoming like Roman Reigns, a guy he had helped him defeat at WrestleMania.
Cody stated that when someone loved WWE as Seth did, they might do anything to protect it, but thinking he was the only one, that was the downfall. Rhodes agreed that Seth didn’t love Rhodes’ “QB1” moniker, but it was just a nickname, a shared nickname.
“SETH ROLLINS IS A W*NKER” chants erupted as Rhodes asked Michael Cole what the fans were saying. Cole hesitated while Wade Barrett repeated what the crowd had said. Cody ended the promo asking Seth: If the world revolved around him, then who was Cody? He is the one man Seth Rollins could not beat. “I am the one in your world, Seth Rollins, that you can not beat!”
Grade: C+
Insights & Moments:
- Cody continued his relaxed mindset going into Crown Jewel, reminding Rollins that he is still 3-0.
- Backstage, Chelsea Green approached Stephanie Vaquer, congratulating her on her title win and telling her she had “the secret sauce.” Green then extended an invitation for Vaquer to join her Secret Hervice, adding that she would never make the same offer to “Tacky Time.” Just then, Tiffany Stratton appeared, prompting Chelsea to make a quick exit.
- Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes was seen walking backstage when he crossed paths with Jacob Fatu. Fatu told Cody he had nothing but love for him, but after Crown Jewel, things would change. As Cody walked off, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis arrived, saying he needed to discuss something with Fatu and asked him to stop by his office. Shortly after, Drew McIntyre blindsided Fatu with a vicious ambush. Aldis and security quickly intervened. As they pulled McIntyre away, Drew told Aldis that he needed a word as well.
Sami Zayn (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura – US title match
Shinsuke Nakamura answered Sami Zayn’s US title open challenge, which was the first match of the go-home show. A returning Nakamura controlled the majority of the match, punishing the Champion with his patented kicks, but Sami fought on, delivering his own offense. However, it all came crashing down when Tama Tonga made his return and attacked Nakamura, causing the disqualification.
Tonga, along with Talla Tonga, Tonga Loa, and JC Mateo, all of them wearing face paint, continue to beat down both Nakamura and Zayn. Solo Sikoa then stepped into the ring and posed with his MFT in front of Zayn and Nakamura, who looked dazed.’
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura via DQ
Grade: B+
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- The crowd was understandably unhappy with the disqualification, especially after such a gripping match.
- Backstage, General Manager Nick Aldis said he needed to speak with Solo Sikoa. First, he addressed Drew McIntyre, telling him that before the earlier attack, he had planned to announce a match between McIntyre and Jacob Fatu for next week.
Tiffany Stratton & Stephanie Vaquer vs Giulia & Kiana James – Tag Team match
In the second match of the show, Tiffany Stratton and Stephanie Vaquer teamed up ahead of their Crown Jewel clash to take on Giulia and Kiana James in a tag team match. Vaquer landed the Devil’s Kiss early on James, but the opposing team managed to isolate Vaquer. A hot tag to Tiffany changed the momentum of the match. Stratton delivered the prettiest moonsault ever to pick up the win.
Winner: Tiffany Stratton & Stephanie Vaquer
Grade: B
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- This was a pretty standard tag team match, with a mandatory face-off between Vaquer and Stratton ahead of Crown Jewel.
- A backstage segment between NXT’s Sol Ruca and Zaria and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss led to a title match being made, though a date was not mentioned.
Wyatt Sicks (Joe Gacy & Dexter Lumis) (c) vs The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) – WWE Tag Team title match
Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis battled Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins with the WWE Tag Team titles on the line. Amid high-flying action, Nikki Kross tried to interfere, but B-Fab neutralized her, only for Erik Rowan to get involved.
Both Dawkins and Ford hit suicide dives, taking out Rowan, but this ended up helping the champions. Lumis saved Gacy from a frog splash by Ford, and together they hit the Plague, pinned Ford, and retained the titles. The Wyatt Six celebrated their win as Solo Sikoa and his MFTs (JC Mateo, Tanga Loa, Tama Tonga, and Tanga Tonga) arrived. Nikki came face-to-face with Sikoa, who then signaled his MFTs to back off.
Winner & still: Wyatt Sicks (Joe Gacy & Dexter Lumis)
Grade: B
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- WWE has finally decided to pull the trigger on a feud between the Wyatt Sicks and Solo Sikoa’s MFT.
- After a recap of his attack on Carmelo Hayes last week, Cathy Kelley interviewed The Miz backstage. Miz explained why he attacked and took out Hayes, stating Melo said he didn’t need him. Miz called himself “the spotlight” and said that Melo “missed.”
Damian Priest vs Aleister Black – Last Man Standing match
In the main event of the show, Damain Priest and Aleister Black collided once again, this time in a last man standing match. Priest controlled the action for the majority of the match, except few skirmishes from Black. Two back-to-back Razor’s Edge on the announce desk almost won Priest the match, but Black refused to stay down.
Damian then took the action into the crowd, battling on a production platform. As Priest called for Black to get up, Zelina Vega appeared, pleading with Priest. Aleister sent her away, and when Priest went to grab him, Black hit Priest with a fireball, sending Damian off the platform with the Blackmass. Priest crashed through a table and was unable to make the count.
Winner: Aleister Black
Grade: B+
Final Thoughts:
- Solo Sikoa and his MFT returned and got involved in two storylines. Let’s see how those transpire.
- A solid show on its own, but failed to generate much hype for the upcoming Crown Jewel PLE. Additionally, a few superstars reverted to their old music, hinting at some change in that direction.
