CM Punk-Kevin Owens’ final face-off before next week, The MFTs win & more!

The August 14, 2026 edition of Friday Night SmackDown concluded at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The show featured two US title matches, along with a WWE Tag Team match and appearances from multiple top names.

The show also addressed the interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green’s injury and whether she will be stripped of the title. WWE also teased a major match for the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WWE SmackDown Results & Summary

• GM Nick Aldis kicked off the show to address Chelsea Green’s injury and asked for the interim WWE Women’s Champion to come out. Aldis teased stripping Green of the title, but Green said she hoped Aldis understood what she was going through. She then declared that she would remain champion until someone defeated her for the title. Aldis gave her 30 days to get medically cleared and defend the title.

• Gunther interrupted and demanded an explanation for why Kevin Owens had been added to the Fatal Four-Way match. Aldis responded that he was actually the last-minute addition, while Owens had been negotiating with WWE about his return for months. Gunther and Green continued to exchange verbal jabs as Matt Cardona made his way to the ring.
  • Gunther started to mock Cardona for coming from catering to the rescue; the two then broke into a brawl, which was eventually stopped by a group of referees.
• Gunther vs Matt Cardona: Gunther defeated Cardona via submission.
• Post-match, The Irresistible Forces (Lash Legend & Nia Jax) came out to confront Chelsea; Tiffany Stratton made the save but was laid out by Jax and Legend.

• Backstage, Charlotte Flair thanked Alexa Bliss for helping her last week, but Bliss credited Tatum Paxley and thanked Charlotte for accepting her. Flair said it was a one-time occurrence, though Bliss insisted she needed to be okay with Paxley going forward, noting that Tatum reminded her of herself and that Charlotte loved her.
  • A door then opened to reveal Paxley standing inside a shrine filled with candles and pictures of Charlotte. Bliss climbed inside and awkwardly remarked that the scene brought back memories, while Flair followed her in with an equally awkward reaction.
• Backstage, Cody Rhodes demanded a match against Randy Orton from GM Nick Aldis, who granted his request and made it official for Sunday Night’s Main Event. Sami Zayn objected to Rhodes once again getting what he wanted. Following a heated exchange, Aldis booked a match, revealing that if Zayn won, he would earn a WWE Championship match against the winner of CM Punk vs Kevin Owens.

• Baron Corbin (c) vs Carmelo Hayes – United States title match: Corbin defeated Hayes via pinfall. Post-match, Trick Williams and Lil Yachty ambushed Corbin.
• Backstage, Chelsea Green checked on Tiffany Stratton and thanked her. Stratton said that she is fine, emphasizing that she will defend the title.
• The final face-off: Kevin Owens and CM Punk arrived in the ring. Owens said he never believed Punk’s apologies to everyone, given how Punk had treated him and his friends in the past. Punk acknowledged Owens’ success but criticized him for failing to evolve, saying he still saw him as a “bum.”
  • Owens responded that he had waited 20 years to punch Punk in the mouth and vowed to do it in seven days before taking the title from him. Punk fired back that he still saw the same greenhorn he had met in 2006 and vowed to defeat Owens’ “fat ass” to retain his title.

• Wepa Up (R-Truth & Damian Priest) (c) vs The War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) vs The MFTs (Talla & Tama Tonga) – Triple Threat match for the WWE Tag Team titles: Talla and Tama Tonga won the match after pinning R-Truth to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. Haku joined them to celebrate the win.

• Tiffany Stratton (c) vs Jacy Jayne – WWE Women’s United States title match: Chelsea Green and the rest of Fatal Influence were ringside, with the latter running interference in the match. Jayne defeated Stratton to become the new Women’s United States Champion.

• Main Event: Cody Rhodes arrived in the ring to battle Sami Zayn, but before Zayn came out, Randy Orton ambushed Rhodes. Zayn protested the match being canceled, while Rhodes and Orton continued their brawl ringside and even into the crowd stands. Referees and officials contained the brawl to close out the show.
