WWE SmackDown Summary and Highlights

Cody Rhodes – Randy Orton- Drew McIntyre

The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, entered the ring to a loud reception from the London crowd. He kissed the mat, picked up the mic, and the crowd continued to sing his theme song. The arena filled with “Cody, Cody Rhodes” chants as he acknowledged the crowd and asked what they wanted to talk about.

Cody reminded them that he would face John Cena at WrestleMania 41, prompting boos as he recapped the storyline and teased a face-off on next week’s Raw. Randy Orton’s music hit, and the Viper entered to cheers. He praised Cody’s journey, from his departure to his return to WWE, while the crowd chanted “Cody, Cody Rhodes” again.

Orton highlighted Cody’s accomplishments, including his win at WrestleMania 40, and expressed pride in him. He then turned his attention to his upcoming match against Kevin Owens, stating that he’d kick Owens’ head off. Orton revealed his goal to chase his 15th World title, challenging Cena’s pursuit of his 17th.

Drew McIntyre’s music interrupted as he picked up the mic and criticized Orton’s entitlement to a title shot, calling out Cody for not listening to him about Cena. McIntyre also reminded the crowd that it should have been him facing Cody at WrestleMania if not for Damian Priest. Drew declared he would be the one to take the title from Cody.

Orton challenged McIntyre, but Drew taunted him about his fragile back. Tensions escalated, and Cody attacked McIntyre, landing an uppercut. Orton attempted an RKO, but McIntyre escaped as the segment ended.

Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) (c) vs Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson & Elton Prince) – WWE Tag Team Championship match

In the first match of the show, the WWE Tag Team Champions, Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) defended the titles against hometown heroes, Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson & Elton Prince). While the Challengers put up a tough opposition, the Champion fought through.

In the end, Street Profits reign supreme as they defeat Pretty Deadly to retain the titles and continue their second title reign.

An earlier clip aired showing Zelina Vega with Katydan Carter and Katana Chance, discussing how Vega was outnumbered last week. Alba Fyre and Piper Niven walked in, continuing to mock Vega for her size, just as Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green entered.

Vega fired back, acknowledging her small stature but asserting she was a big threat to the title. Carter replied that they would see when the threat was neutralized, and Green agreed. Piper and Fyre tried to size up Vega as Carter and Chance prepared to face off.

Kayden Carter & Katana Chance vs The Secret Hervice (Piper Niven & Alba Fyre)

The Secret Hervice (Piper Niven & Alba Fyre) debuted on the London show of SmackDown to battle the team of Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, following a backstage confrontation. While Carter and Chance were cruising towards victory, Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green interfered, which helped Niven to capitalize as she landed a power slam on Chance to pick up the debut win for the Secret Hervice.

After the match, Niven, Green, and Fyre continued to attack Carter, but Zelina Vega rushed into the arena, taking out Fyre. Green then attacked Vega, and the London crowd erupted in boos. Vega fired back, lining up Green for a slam. Fyre intervened to make the save, but Niven delivered the final blow, a running senton. The US Champion and the Secret Service stood tall.

LA Knight (c) vs Braun Strowman – United States Championship match

United States Champion LA Knight defended the title against the number one contender Braun Strowman in the third match of the show. While the Champion tried to take control early, Strowman showcased his strength and battered Knight.

However, Knight rallied back and tried to finish the match but Strowman send him outside and as he was going for the Strowman Express, Jacob Fatu ambushed both stars leading to the disqualification. Fatu attacked Knight and slammed Strowman onto the commentary desk. He brought Strowman back into the ring, continuing the assault with multiple headbutts.

Knight tried to fight back, but Fatu countered with a Samoan drop before turning his attention to Strowman, hitting running hip attacks. Fatu finished the attack with a moonsault from the top rope, and the crowd chanted for another. Fatu obliged, landing a second moonsault!

Backstage

A playback aired of the backstage segment where Jimmy Uso slapped Gunther. Jackie Redmond interviewed Jimmy backstage about the slap delivered on this week’s Monday Night Raw. Jimmy responded that he would love to slap Gunther again and hyped up Jey Uso’s title match against Gunther at WrestleMania 41, stating that he would beat Gunther and Jey would do the same at Mania.

Jimmy then ran into The Miz and Carmelo Hayes, who mocked his comments. The Miz called Jimmy “the other Uso,” the career sidekick, while Gunther was the “main character.” Hayes agreed, and The Miz warned Jimmy that if he tried to slap him, he’d be on the ground.

Jimmy attempted to slap Miz, but Miz quickly backed off. Big Jim then announced he would speak to GM Nick Aldis about setting up a match between the two.

Jacob Fatu was backstage when Solo Sikoa confronted him, accompanied by Tama Tonga. Sikoa and Tonga tried to reason with Fatu, who was filled with rage. Sikoa warned Fatu to watch his tone when speaking to them, but Fatu fired back, stating that when it came to him and Braun Strowman, he would be the last man standing. He vowed to bring the United States title back to the family, with or without their help.

A video promo then aired with Naomi justifying her actions, claiming she had always done the right thing. Naomi stated she had no idea how Jade Cargill came out of nowhere and took her place with Bianca Belair. She reminded everyone that she had inspired Belair and expressed frustration over being treated like a third wheel, underutilized, and underappreciated. Naomi warned that if Cargill continued to get in her way, she should move with caution.

General Manager Nick Aldis was backstage with Jade Cargill when she asked about Naomi’s whereabouts. Aldis replied that neither he nor anyone else had seen Naomi. Cargill then left and ran into Michin and B-Fab. The two stars sympathized with Cargill and advised her to do what she wanted. Cargill responded that she would, wishing Michin good luck for her upcoming match against Charlotte Flair.

Charlotte Flair vs Michin

Michin made her way to the ring, accompanied by B-Fab, for her match against Charlotte Flair. However, Naomi suddenly ambushed both B-Fab and Michin. She continued the attack, beating down B-Fab at ringside on the announce desk.

Jade Cargill’s music hit, and she charged toward Naomi, who managed to escape just in time. Cargill then checked on Michin and B-Fab, who was limping. Officials escorted B-Fab backstage. Charlotte Flair’s music hit, and she came face-to-face with Cargill. Jade left as Flair made her way to the ring for her singles match against Michin.

While Michin tried to fight Flair even after taking the beating, Flair took control easily but a late rally from Michin almost cost Flair the match, who then locked in the figure eight as Michin tapped out while crying in pain.

Backstage

Jackie Redmond interviewed WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, asking her about the interview last week alongside Charlotte Flair on SmackDown.

Stratton responded, saying Flair loves to talk and that at Mania, she has nothing to lose. “If I lose, I lose to Charlotte Flair, a legend. If you (Flair) lose, you lose to a ‘unoriginal, undeserving, backflip-doing, blonde hair-having, little girl.'” Stratton then cut a promo, hyping up the Women’s title clash at Mania.

Randy Orton vs Drew McIntyre

The bell rang, and the battle between the two veterans began with “Oh! Drew McIntyre” chants filling the O2 as the two stars clashed in the middle of the ring. McIntyre took down Orton and mockingly asked how Randy’s back was feeling, causing Orton to take a breather. McIntyre maintained control, landing a vicious chest chop. Orton fought back but was met with a series of strikes, including a clothesline and an iconic slam.

Orton hit the DDT from the ropes, followed by an RKO, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Orton called for the finish but noticed Kevin Owens near the entrance ramp. Seizing the opportunity, McIntyre hit the Claymore on Orton and covered him to secure the win.

Kevin Owens then dragged Orton out of the ring, slamming him onto the announce desk. Owens set up for a piledriver, but Orton dropped down, kicking Owens’ legs out from under him. Orton lined up for the Punt kick, but Owens escaped and rushed away, with officials trying to stop Orton. Orton stood tall on the announce desk, recovering from the Claymore.

Jimmy Uso vs The Miz

In the final match of the show, Jimmy Uso took on The Miz, the match was set up following their backstage interaction earlier on the show. While Miz showcased his agility and experience taking control on multiple occasions, Big Jim rallied back and finished the match after landing the Uso splash from the top rope.

After the match, Jimmy Uso stood atop the announce desk as Joe Tessitore handed him a microphone. Jimmy cut a promo, sending a stern warning to Gunther ahead of their clash next week on Monday Night Raw at the O2 Arena.

Drew McIntyre – Damian Priest

Jackie Redmond caught up with Drew McIntyre as he was leaving the arena, asking him about his recent win over Randy Orton. McIntyre responded, stating that nobody screws him over, and despite calling out Damian Priest, he didn’t show up.

As McIntyre was about to leave, he found Priest on the other side of the door. Priest ambushed McIntyre, slamming him onto the trunk of a car. When the car owner protested, Priest threw him off. McIntyre tried to fight back, but Priest delivered the final blow, taking McIntyre down with a South of Heaven onto the windshield of the car, shattering it. Officials and security rushed to check on McIntyre.

CM Punk then entered the arena, surrounded by security, and saw McIntyre struggling in pain from the beating he took at the hands of Priest.

CM Punk, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania 41 triple-threat contract signing

General Manager Nick Aldis was inside the ring, hyping up the crowd for the contract signing. Security surrounded the ring as Aldis introduced Roman Reigns. The OTC made his entrance first, with the O2 Arena raising their hands to acknowledge their Tribal Chief!

Reigns walked to the ring accompanied by Paul Heyman. As “Roman, Roman Reigns” chants echoed through the arena, Reigns picked up the mic and asked the crowd to acknowledge him. The crowd responded, and Reigns sat down in the chair that Heyman had carefully prepared for him.

Reigns praised the crowd as chants of “Roman, Roman Reigns” filled the arena once more. Heyman joined in as Reigns stated he had two reasons for being there: one, to be acknowledged, and two, to sign the contract. Reigns signed the contract, declaring that he had checked both boxes.

Seth Rollins‘ music hit, interrupting Reigns, and the crowd erupted, singing Rollins’ theme. The Visionary took his time, soaking in the crowd’s love. He stepped into the ring, grabbed the mic, and teasingly put it in Heyman’s face, hoping he’d sing the same way he did for Reigns.

Heyman stared at him, while Rollins laughed and asked why Reigns was in such a hurry to leave, reminding him of how they both started 12 years ago in the O2 Arena. Rollins then stated they accomplished their mission, but Reigns cut him off, saying “we” died a long time ago and that it’s only been him because he’s done all the work.

Reigns claimed he made the place better than he found it and asked what Rollins had done. Rollins fired back, saying Reigns’ mindset was the exact reason he had to keep screwing him. Rollins reminded Reigns of the mistake he made by interfering when Rollins was ending CM Punk. Rollins then signed the contract, but before anything could happen, Punk’s music hit.

The Second City Saint made his entrance, greeted by a massive crowd pop. Punk stepped onto the second rope like last week, picked up the mic, and said he came to chew bubble gum and sign the contract. As “CM Punk” chants filled the arena, Punk entered the ring and looked over the contract.

Reigns asked why Punk was taking so long, to which Punk continued to examine the contract. Reigns then asked Heyman to help him, and Heyman revealed that Punk was about to mainevent WrestleMania, fulfilling his dream. Reigns laughed, but Rollins lost his cool, stating that Punk didn’t deserve to main event WrestleMania.

Punk picked up the mic, wiping away tears as he thanked the London, Chicago, and Kentucky crowds, as well as every fan who supported him. Reigns interrupted, stating that Punk should be thanking his Tribal Chief, because it was because of him that Punk was in the main event. Reigns demanded Punk thank him the right way.

Punk dropped to his knees and sarcastically thanked “his Tribal Chief, the holder of the Ula Fala, the Head of the Table, the Big Dog?” He continued to thank Reigns, then added that he would see him in the main event of WrestleMania.

Punk signed the contract as “You deserve it” chants filled the arena. The Second City Saint then thanked Reigns and ended the segment, revealing that it wasn’t the favor he was owed. Friday Night SmackDown came to an end, with the favor still not revealed.
