WWE SmackDown Summary and Highlights

Nick Aldis – Randy Orton

General Manager Nick Aldis stood in the ring, recapping the events of last week’s show. He stated that he was there to address the RKO incident. Maintaining his professionalism, Aldis invited Randy Orton to come down to the ring.

Randy Orton’s music hit, and the Viper made his entrance in Seattle. Orton stepped into the ring and came face-to-face with the General Manager. Picking up a mic, Orton noted that from the look in Aldis’ eyes, it was clear he had taken last week very personally.

Randy reminded everyone that he had paid a fine for an RKO last year—along with an extra fine for one that hadn’t even happened yet. He then pointed out that he didn’t have a match for WrestleMania. With this being his 20th Mania, Orton said he needed Aldis to make it happen.

He added that he would fight anyone—suggesting that even Aldis could throw on some gear and step into the ring himself. Aldis fired back, saying what he really wanted was Orton’s respect. Orton replied that Aldis had already earned his respect a long time ago, but if he didn’t get his WrestleMania match, he would personally apologize to Mickie James—Aldis’ wife and a WWE legend—for what might happen next.

Suddenly, Solo Sikoa’s music hit, and he made his way to the ring accompanied by Tama Tonga. Sikoa stepped up and told Aldis to make Orton clear the ring.

Randy Orton & LA Knight – Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga

Solo Sikoa stated that LA Knight would end up in the same boat as Orton because Jacob Fatu would walk out as the new United States Champion—while Orton would be sitting at home, all alone. Orton fired back, saying that while he was trying to remain diplomatic, Sikoa had the nerve to come out and confront him. The Viper then called out both men, challenging them inside the ring.

Sikoa and Tama Tonga began to stalk Orton, and although Orton fought back, the numbers game quickly overwhelmed him as both men launched a two-on-one assault. LA Knight’s music hit, and the United States Champion stormed down to the ring, evening the odds. Orton regrouped, and together with Knight, they cleared the ring. Sikoa and Tonga retreated up the ramp.

Knight picked up a mic and declared that if they were going to speak his name, he’d take it right out of their mouths and put his fist in instead. The U.S. Champion then floated the idea of a tag team match later that night, proposing a showdown between the two teams. General Manager Nick Aldis made it official: LA Knight and Randy Orton vs Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga.

Women’s Tag Team Gauntlet Match – Winner earns Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 41

A total of six different teams (Kayden Carter & Katana Chance, Alba Fyre & Piper Niven, Lyra Valkyria & Bayley, Natalya & Maxxine Dupri, Michin & B-Fab, Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler) took part in the Gauntlet match.

The team of Bayley and Lyra Valkyria started the action against Pure Fusion Collective (Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler). Bayley and Lyra stayed in the match as they eliminated Natalya & Maxxine Dupri, followed by Kayden Karter & Katana Chance, and Michin & B-Fab.

Bayey and Valkyria defeated The Secret Hervice (Alba Fyre & Piper Niven) to win the match and confirm their spot for WrestleMania 41, they will now battle the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.

Damian Priest – Drew McIntyre

Damian Priest made the walk as Drew McIntyre ambushed him from behind near the entrance ramp. McIntyre continued to batter Priest, slamming his head on the barricade as the screen started glittering. Security and officials ran in and diffused the situation as Drew stepped into the ring and Priest was brought backstage.

McIntyre picked up the mic and cut a promo stating that every action was justified, including dropping Priest’s ass. Drew stated that even with one eye he accepted the ‘Sin City Street Fight’ because that’s how he was. He then sent a warning, revealing that he had some good news.

McIntyre removed the eye patch, stating that he was 100% clear, which meant Priest was 100% screwed at Mania. Priest then stepped back through the entrance ramp as security tried to intervene, but Damian darted toward the ring and attacked McIntyre.

The action was inside the ring as Damian sent McIntyre out of the ring and slammed Drew’s head on the steel steps. Security tried to intervene once again as Drew capitalized and attacked Priest’s eye. Drew then slammed the steel steps on Damian’s head.

The officials tried once again to separate the two as McIntyre landed the Future Shock DDT face-first into the steel steps. McIntyre gloated in front of the crowd as security and officials checked up on Priest.

Rey Fenix vs Berto

In the second match of the show, Rey Fenix took on Berto in a singles match, the match turned out to be an amazing high-flying action between the two Latino stars. However, in the end, Fenix landed the Mexican muscle buster to pick up the win in his second WWE match and continue his unbeaten streak.

After the match, Santos Escobar checked up on Berto as he lauded his performance and then picked up Fenix, asking Berto to shake his hand. Berto shook Fenix’s hand half-heartedly as Escobar did the same and left.

Roxanne Perez – Tiffany Stratton

Byron Saxton was backstage near Nick Aldis’s office as he interviewed Roxanne Perez, who was on SmackDown, asking her the purpose of the visit. Perez stated that as the runner-up for the Women’s Royal Rumble, she was ready to battle for the WWE Women’s Championship because she was professional.

Perez then stated that Tiffany was unable to handle the pressure. WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton walked in, asking if Perez was really talking about her. Stratton advised her to learn something from her. Perez fired back as the two stars continued arguing.

Nick Aldis stepped out of his office to see this. Stratton then floated the idea of a clash between the two, asking the GM, who stated that he would think about it and asked Stratton to cool off until then.

Chelsea Green vs Zelina Vega

With her Secret Hervice (Alba Fyre & Piper Niven) still in the doctor’s room after the brutal Women’s Gauntlet match, Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green made the walk for her singles clash against Zelina Vegas.

The bell rang as Green attacked Vega and yelled for Piper Niven and Alba Fyre. Vega tried to capitalize, but Green took her out with a missile dropkick, followed by a slam head-first on the announcer’s desk.

Green then went on to argue with Joe Tessitore as she stepped back in the ring. The bell went off, causing a lot of confusion as Mark Nash announced that Vega had defeated Green via countout. Chelsea tried to attack Vega, who rolled out of the ring and stated that she was coming for the title.

Backstage

Berto was backstage as Garza and Santos Escobar walked in. Escobar stated that he needed that kind of performance in Legado Del Fantasma. Escobar then reminded Berto of the words he had said before facing Fenix.

Santos then left, telling Angel that they should find Rey Fenix, as he needed to congratulate him on the win. Andrade was now with Berto as he motivated him, stating that he should keep his face up and be proud. Berto got up and asked Andrade to mind his own business.

Cody Rhodes

‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes stepped into the ring as he pointed towards the WrestleMania 41 sign and put the Undisputed title on the podium in between the rest of the WWE titles over the years. Rhodes thanked the Seattle crowd and then pointed towards the titles, stating that it was the metric of excellence that said, “You’re the best wrestler in the world!”

Cody cut a promo stating what the title meant for history, for the future, for upcoming stars, and pointed out that there was one who wanted to take it all away—John Cena. Rhodes pointed out that John Cena left out Seattle from his farewell tour and revealed that Cena would be on SmackDown in Las Vegas next week.

Rhodes continued to recap Champions throughout the year with the titles and ended up at the spinner belt as he spun the logo, stating that Cena carried the company for years, but now he was the WWE Champion, not John Cena.

Cody stated that he had a piece of advice for Cena, as he had seen his father struggle with being a babyface his entire career. Rhodes reminded Cena that the audience was allowed to love somebody else.

He also stated that it was him today, might be somebody else’s, and named the stacked roster of the WWE. Rhodes then cut another promo warning Cena ahead of their clash as he held the Undisputed title up, stating that the title would stay with “US!”

Backstage

Byron Saxton was backstage as he welcomed the WWE Tag Team Champions, the Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins), and asked them about their title defense against the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) next week.

Ford stated that they liked Motor City but pointed out that they didn’t have the titles, as Dawkins said that they ran the division. Carmelo Hayes walked in, accompanied by The Miz, stating that they were running the division into the ground.

The Miz went off on the Street Profits, saying that together with Hayes, they would take down the Champs. Dawkins went to attack, but Ford stopped him, stating, “Let them breathe, fella!”

Tiffany Stratton vs Roxanne Perez

Following their backstage interaction, WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton battled Roxanne Perez in a singles match. Perez took control early and targeted Stratton’s left arm as she looked to pin the Women’s Champion.

However, Stratton refused to quit and fought back, Stratton landed the prettiest moonsault from the top rope to pick up the win against Roxanne. Charlotte Flair appeared after the match dragged Tiffany out of the ring and attacked the Champion, slamming her into the barricade.

Flair sent Tiffany flying off the announce desk as Wade Barrett stepped in and tried to talk sense into Flair. Security and officials checked up on Stratton as Charlotte stood tall on the announce desk.

WrestleMania 41 card

During the show, WWE also revealed the full match card for both days of Wrestlemania 41 PLE. Jade Cargill vs Noami, WWE World Tag Team Championship match, Rey Mysterio vs El Grande Americano, United States title match, WWE Women’s title match and the World Heavyweight title clash will take place on WrestleMania Saturday.

Women’s Tag Team Championships match, Sin City Street Fight, Intercontinental Championship match, AJ Styles vs Logan Paul, Women’s World title, and the Undisputed WWE title will be contested on the WrestleMania Sunday card.

LA Knight & Randy Orton vs Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga

The team of LA Knight and Randy Orton took on Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga in the main event of the show. The Seattle crowd got to see glimpses of vintage Orton as he landed the DDT and called for the RKO but Tama Tonga thwarted the attack.

The action continued throughout the break as Sikoa landed damage on Orton, who fired back with multiple shots and landed a headbutt. But as the saying goes, “don’t headbutt a Samoan,” Orton went down as Sikoa and Tonga continued the beatdown. Knight went wild as he battered both Sikoa and Tonga, landing an elbow drop on Tama.

Knight was the official man who was battling Tonga as Solo tried to interfere Orton stepped in and sent Sikoa out of the ring, hitting an RKO on Tonga. Solo pulled Randy out of the ring, and the two continued brawling into the crowd. Back inside the ring, Knight and Tonga got back to their feet and collided with their backs turned. Knight landed a BFT, followed by the cover to pick up the win.

After the match, Jacob Fatu ambushed Knight ahead of their title clash at Mania. Fatu landed a running senton and followed it up with a vicious hip attack. Fatu capped off the attack with a moonsault from the top rope.

Fatu picked up the title and threw it down before landing another jump-up moonsault. Knight cried in pain as Fatu posed with the U.S. title, and the show came to an end.
