WWE SmackDown Summary and Highlights

Kevin Owens

Joe Tessitore kicked off the interview by stating that he had thought about the role of covering him and wanted to give Kevin Owens the chance to speak. KO fired back, asking if this was his way of trying to make things right. Owens berated Joe, stating that he was going to win the title at the Royal Rumble.

Tessitore responded that he wasn’t going to apologize for his interview with Cody Rhodes, but he would apologize for the way they had covered KO’s side of the story.

KO rejected Tessitore’s apology, stating that the only reason he was there was to take the Winged Eagle title back and that he would take the Undisputed title the next day. Then, CM Punk’s music hit, and the Second City Saint appeared in Indianapolis.

CM Punk – Kevin Owens

CM Punk stepped into the ring and came face-to-face with Owens, as the crowd lost their minds at the sight of it. Owens picked up the mic, and the crowd started booing as he asked if he could help Punk. Punk apologized for interrupting KO and stated that he wasn’t looking past him.

The Second City Saint revealed that if he won the Rumble match the next day, and if KO got past Cody Rhodes, it would be KO vs. Punk, and he was coming for the champion because it wouldn’t last long. Owens replied that there were 29 guys in the Rumble match he liked, except Punk, but the thought of facing him at WrestleMania and decimating Punk at Mania excited him.

KO went on to say that he knew how much main-eventing Mania meant to the Second City Saint, and that the idea of Punk not headlining Mania gave him a “warm fuzzy” feeling. Owens then reminded Punk that he was a multiple-time WrestleMania headliner, while Punk would go to his grave as a failure, hoping that Punk wouldn’t win the Rumble so Kevin could leave.

Punk interjected and fired back, stating his accomplishments, especially never losing five title matches at the Royal Rumble. Punk further reminded KO that he hadn’t lost to Logan Paul and hadn’t manipulated his best friend to help him win a title.

The Second City Saint then cut a promo for the upcoming Royal Rumble match and the title clash in the ladder match. Punk then announced that he would kick Owens’ ass if he stepped back into the ring. Owens looked like he was going to step in but then climbed away and retreated as Punk greeted the crowd.
