Drew McIntyre appeared from the crowd, yelling at GM Nick Aldis to shove the Mania contract up his a** and blaming Aldis for giving his golden boy the WrestleMania spot. Aldis then appeared and said there was nothing to make right, explaining that part of being a champion is defending the title. He reminded Drew that he had headbutted the referee and still ended up losing the title.

The GM said Drew was now facing the consequences of his own actions. Drew fired back, reminding Aldis that Cody had lost at both the Chamber and the Rumble, and that the two had a clause stating Cody would not get a rematch.

Aldis responded by reminding Drew that he was the one who prevented Cody from winning the Rumble and the Chamber, and that he knew why, because the first chance Cody got, he beat Drew. This angered Drew, who got into the ring and faced off with the GM, warning him to make things right or else.

Jacob Fatu then appeared and stepped into the ring as the two stared each other down, causing Aldis to take a step back. Jacob laughed and asked what exactly there was to fix, reminding Drew that he wouldn’t even be the champion if it weren’t for him. Fatu said he was the one who made sure Drew was no longer the champion.

He added that it wasn’t about Aldis, Cody, or anyone else. Drew kept blaming the referee and everyone around him, but Jacob said he was the one who had screwed Drew. Jacob then asked what Drew was going to do about it. Drew responded by saying he was done with everything. He got in the GM’s face and said that he quit, repeating, “I quit.” McIntyre then exited the ring and walked up the arena steps toward the crowd.

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Backstage, Solo Sikoa said that the plan had worked, as they had the lantern and had stopped the Wyatt Sicks from becoming the number one contenders. He then told Talla that they would take care of Uncle Howdy and Erik Rowan later that night. Solo also told Tama to guard the lantern with his life, saying that without the lantern, the Wyatts were nothing. As the MFTs left, Tama looked at the lantern. Shinsuke Nakamura then appeared, and the two spoke in Japanese as Nakamura asked when Tama would decide to become his own man. Solo returned and warned Nakamura to stay away from his family before he got hurt.
  • Backstage, Jacob Fatu and GM Nick Aldis were discussing Drew McIntyre quitting earlier. Fatu said that Drew had quit when he was about to whoop him. At that moment, Trick Williams stepped in and told Fatu to get his own moniker instead of using his. The two got into a heated face-off before Aldis stepped in and diffused the situation. Fatu said he was tired of the disrespect and walked away, while Williams told Aldis to do his job. Aldis then made a match official for later in the show: Trick Williams vs Jacob Fatu.

Uncle Howdy & Erik Rowan vs Solo Sikoa & Talla Tonga – Tag Team match

In continuation of their feud, Wyatt Sicks’ Uncle Howdy and Erik Rowan battled Solo Sikoa and Talla Tonga from the MFTs in a tag team match. Sikoa once again played the numbers game, gaining an advantage with Talla by his side, but was distracted once Nikki Cross grabbed the lantern. Howdy, capitalized, delivering the Sister Abigail DDT to pin Solo and win the match.

After the match, Nikki handed the lantern to Howdy, who started to celebrate, but Tama Tonga attacked him with a cutthroat and stole the lantern back.

Winner: Uncle Howdy & Erik Rowan

Grade: B+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The lantern theft worked again in favor of the MFTs, and it looks like WWE is going to drag this feud until Mania.
  • Backstage, R-Truth confused The MFTs for The Judgment Day. Angel and Berto then confronted them, saying that they had done the heavy lifting during last week’s number one contenders’ match. Priest then floated the idea of a match later in the show, which was made official later.

Jade Cargill vs Michin – Non-title match

After their confrontation last week, WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill battled Michin in a non-title match. Cargill was able to defeat Michin once again after delivering Jaded. After the match, Cathy Kelley joined Jade Cargill in the ring and asked about the tension between her and Rhea Ripley. Cargill grabbed the microphone from Cathy’s hands and said this is what happens when wrestlers start believing in their own hype.

She then addressed Ripley, saying she wasn’t scared of Rhea despite what people thought, because she didn’t see her as a threat. Jade added that she would beat Rhea at WrestleMania and prove why she is always on top. Rhea Ripley then appeared and stepped into the ring, and the two began arguing before Cargill rolled out of the ring.

Ripley picked up the microphone and said Jade had been running her mouth, but ran away from the fight. Rhea said that Jade was going to be her bitch at WrestleMania. She continued mouthing off at Jade, who simply laughed it off and left.

Winner: Jade Cargill

Grade: C+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The commentary, after a recap of the feud between the two, noted that Jade intentionally hurt Michin during their clash at the Holiday Tour, which suggests this is the creative direction they’re going in.
  • During the match, Wade Barrett again noted that Jade hurt Michin during the Holiday Tour to send a message to the locker room.
  • Backstage, GM Nick Aldis was on the phone when Cody Rhodes stepped in and asked what was going on with the Drew McIntyre situation. Aldis told Cody to focus on the contract. Cody replied that he had already looked it over and that it looked good. Aldis then left as Sami Zayn appeared. Sami said he just came by to congratulate Cody on the title win and added that he was rooting for him at WrestleMania. Cody responded by saying he knew Sami had said the exact same thing to Randy, and if Sami was looking for a title shot from Randy, he already had it and hadn’t even defended it yet. Cody added that if Sami wanted the opportunity, they could walk into Aldis’ office right now. Sami said he couldn’t believe Cody thought so low of him. He explained that he had said that to Randy because he was Randy Orton and someone he had always looked up to. However, he didn’t look up to Cody because they were friends and equals. Cody clarified that he wasn’t talking down to Sami and said that he actually looked up to him and was inspired by him. He added that Sami didn’t need to look up to him; he just needed to look at the title. Zelina Vega and Aleister Black then appeared, laughing. Black remarked that maybe the title wasn’t meant for Sami. Sami warned him to stay far, far away from him.

The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend) (c) vs Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss – Women’s Tag Team Titles match

The Bella Twins (Nikki and Brie Bella) made their return before the match and announced that whoever won would face them next, as they planned to be the next in line. They then took a seat at ringside to closely watch the action. However, their presence quickly led to chaos during the match. As Charlotte was attacking, Nia Jax pulled Nikki in front of her, causing Flair to accidentally take Nikki out instead.

Back in the ring, Bliss and Flair lined the Champions for the finish when Brie attacked Nia, causing the disqualification. Legend then took down Bliss, Brie, and Flair as well. The brawl continued as Nikki joined in, but Legend and Nia laid waste to her. The sequence ended with Nia delivering a leg drop from the top rope on Nikki.

Winner & Still: The Irresistible Forces via DQ

Grade: B-

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • This was the Bella Twins’ first appearance since Raw after the Royal Rumble, where Brie Bella made her return.
  • Backstage before the match, B-Fab and Michin talked about Michin’s match against Jade Cargill. Rhea Ripley then stepped in and congratulated Michin on having a great match. Michin responded by congratulating Rhea on getting the WrestleMania match, but added that she didn’t need a pity party. B-Fab then stepped in to diffuse the situation before leaving with Michin.
  • Backstage, R-Truth was talking with Jelly Roll when Damian Priest showed up. Truth introduced his friend as ‘Sushi Roll’ but explained that he and Priest had to handle some tag team business. After they left, Jelly Roll approached Randy Orton, and the two congratulated each other on their recent wins. Jelly asked Randy for some advice about his upcoming MizTV appearance, and Randy told him to put Miz in his place if he talked too much.
  • Backstage, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss ran into The Bella Twins, and the two sides argued over the earlier DQ. The Bella Twins then left, reminding the two that, thanks to Aldis, they were next in line for the Tag Team titles.

R-Truth & Damian Priest vs Los Garzas (Angel & Berto)

After forming a tag team last week and picking up the win to become the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team titles, R-Truth and Damian Priest battled Los Garzas (Angel & Berto) after an argument in a backstage segment earlier. The fan-favorite duo was able to hit another double finish, AA & South of Heaven finish to win the match.

Winner: R-Truth & Damian Priest

Grade: B-

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The newly formed Tag Team of Truth and Priest is now undefeated, picking up their second win in a row after their win last week.
  • Backstage, Candice LeRae was with Johnny Gargano and Alex Shelley, who encouraged her to go back to basics and not lose hope on Gargano. Chris Sabin then appeared. Alex went in for an apology hug, but Sabin scolded him for wasting time with Johnny. He announced that he had secured a tag match with Fraxiom for next week and asked Shelley if he was still committed to the Motor City Machine Guns.
  • Backstage, Danhausen confronted Miz, surprising him and handing him a t-shirt to wear on MizTV. He also pitched the idea of running his own version of the show with his own celebrities and desk. Miz wasn’t interested, and in response, Danhausen placed another curse on him.

Jelly Roll live on Miz TV

Miz welcomed the fans to Miz TV, but the mic cut out. He grabbed another mic, hyped up the crowd, and then introduced the guest for the night, Jelly Roll. Jelly made his entrance and sat down with Miz, explaining that he couldn’t miss two of his boys headlining WrestleMania.

Miz said he saw Jelly’s potential and that all he needed was a mentor, himself, and all Jelly had to do was say “yes.” Jelly turned down the offer, pointing out Miz’s history of betraying his partners. Miz countered, claiming that while everyone talked about Jelly’s redemption story, he had been behind it all along.

Miz mocked Jelly for needing help to get back up, prompting Jelly to ask if Miz was really trying to take credit for his weight loss. He then went off on the A-Lister. Miz said he liked Jelly when he was heavier, but Jelly insisted that fat or not, he would still whoop Miz. Miz claimed he was a locker room leader, and Jelly shot back by calling him a locker room loser.

Kit Wilson then appeared, telling Miz to stop, saying the real problem wasn’t Miz mentoring Jelly, it was Jelly himself. Jelly admitted that he liked Wilson, saying everyone secretly did, as he mimicked Wilson’s pose. Kit called him out for mocking him during a serious conversation.

Jelly struck the pose again, and Wilson accused him of being FATPHOBIC, claiming he didn’t inspire anyone and only promoted unhealthy behavior. Wilson called Jelly toxic once more, and Roll got right in his face. Wilson shoved him away as Miz intervened to prevent things from getting personal. Jelly fired back with a massive right hand, but Wilson ducked, causing Jelly to accidentally take down Miz instead.

Grade: C+

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Backstage, Carmelo Hayes approached Ilja Dragunov, saying he thought he was starting to understand Ilja after last week’s talk about his mom. Ilja, however, said he didn’t really get it, explaining that he lived caught between extremes, and that was the only way he knew how to exist, because he didn’t know peace. Hayes admitted he didn’t fully understand either, but said he needed Ilja to commit to the fight. Still, he admitted he was beginning to suspect there was a deeper reason Ilja wasn’t stepping up. Ilja replied that he couldn’t fight Melo because he was still fighting himself.
  • Backstage, Tiffany Stratton was cutting a promo on Giulia when Chelsea Green rolled up to interrupt her. Stratton shoved Green’s wheelchair before finishing her promo, declaring that she was coming for Giulia’s Women’s United States title.

Tiffany Stratton vs Kiana James

Midway through the match, where Tiffany Stratton was looking for a win and challenge Giulia for the US title, Chelsea Green appeared alongside Alba Fyre. Chelsea then tried to interfere, getting up from her wheelchair as Alba Fyre handed her a hammer. Giulia intercepted the attack and shoved Green away.

Giulia then held Stratton on the ropes, helping James, who came in with a big boot. However, Stratton ducked, causing James to knock down Giulia instead as she dropped down directly onto Green. Stratton capitalized on the chaos, hitting a flawless moonsault to pin James and secure the win.

Winner: Tiffany Stratton

Grade: B

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • There were reports of booking Giulia vs Tiffany vs Jordynne Grace for the US title at Mania, but Grace was pulled from the planned match after her injury.
  • Chelsea Green’s involvement in the match signals her likely getting involved in the title match at Mania, if she gets medically cleared in time.
  • Backstage before the match, Kit Wilson and The Miz were talking, with Wilson saying he would speak to Nick Aldis and make sure Jelly Roll got what he wanted. Danhausen then appeared, startling Miz, and claimed that he would have saved him. Miz yelled at him to leave, but Danhausen insisted that Miz needed to do “the thing” to lift the curse. Miz grew even angrier, but before he could respond, Danhausen vanished.

Trick Williams vs Jacob Fatu

Once again, Jacob Fatu’s ongoing feud with Drew McIntyre played a part in the match as Drew McIntyre attacked Fatu ringside, when the official was distracted, shoving him into the ringpost before sending him back in. Williams capitalized, hitting the Trick shot to pin Fatu.

After the match, McIntyre entered the ring and delivered a Claymore to Fatu. He then glanced at the WrestleMania sign and gave a thumbs-down, ending the sequence.

Winner: Trick Williams

Grade: B+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Before the match, Cathy Kelley interviewed Trick Williams, who complained that Nick Aldis hadn’t done his job and insisted he shouldn’t have even had a match tonight. He declared that, regardless, he was going to knock the boogeyman right out of Jacob Fatu. Sami Zayn then appeared, mocking Trick for talking big and calling him “Mr. Can’t Get It Done.” Sami pointed out how Williams kept getting dropped because he ran his mouth but couldn’t back it up, saying he understood the embarrassed feeling Trick was going through. Trick fired back that Sami was lucky he had a match tonight, or he would’ve taken him down. Sami simply said it was good news, because he was around every week and easy to find.

GM Nick Aldis welcomed back Drew McIntyre, noting that it appeared he hadn’t quit, and announced that McIntyre would face Jacob Fatu next week. Aldis then began the contract signing, welcoming Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. The two men embraced as the music cut off, and Aldis greeted them both.

Cody sat down and invited Orton to do the same. Orton joined him, and Cody hyped up the Phoenix crowd, recalling that his first WWE match was against Orton and highlighting how Orton had inspired him. He reflected on leaving and returning to WWE, noting that he returned alone but had always considered Orton like family, proud to call him his boy despite not being related by blood.

Rhodes signed the contract and pushed it toward Orton, who glanced at it before picking up a mic. Orton stated that Cody probably didn’t understand, saying he needed the title, but this match wasn’t supposed to be hard; it was supposed to be easy, it was supposed to be Drew.

Cody cut him off, saying that when the bell rang, he would face the Legend Killer. He continued hyping Orton and urged him to sign the contract, adding that after WrestleMania, he wanted Orton to know he would always love him. Orton signed the contract, and the two embraced again.

Suddenly, Orton flipped the switch, slamming Cody face-first onto the table and delivering a low blow. He tore off Cody’s shirt, threw him over the announce desk, and then smashed him with the steel steps. Nick Aldis appeared, confronting Orton, but Randy shoved him aside and went after Cody, who was busted open.

Orton slammed Cody face-first onto the steel steps, then placed him on the announce desk and continued attacking him. He lined up the steel steps against the desk with Cody’s head in between them. Jelly Roll appeared to intervene, but Orton shoved him away. Orton then looked around, realizing the damage he’d done, before finally leaving.

Aldis, Jelly Roll, and the officials checked on Cody as the crowd watched in disbelief. Orton returned with a steel chair, whipping Cody face-first between the steel steps. Officials begged Orton for mercy, but he continued, bringing the chair back into the ring and picking up the World Title. Orton then sat on the chair with the title in his hand as medical staff continued tending to Cody, bringing the show to a shocking close.

Grade: A+

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Well, we knew a heel turn was coming for Orton, since Cody is the face of WWE and sells too much merchandise for him to turn heel. Anyway, the return of The Viper is definitely going to excite fans and make them tune in for WrestleMania.
  • Orton, sitting with the title in his hand inside the ring after the beatdown, while officials rushed in to check on Cody, was masterful storytelling that elevated the rivalry, making it far more compelling than anticipated.
